Panel for Id (Idpi)
« on: March 02, 2018, 04:19:27 pm »

From reading several threads on the forum, it would seem there is a different version of Panel for MC Windows (Mac, Linux) and for the Id and Idpi.  Am I correct in this conclusion?

If so, as there seem to be plans for improvements to Panel for Windows MC, does that mean ere will aslo be improvements to the Panel for Id and pi?

Is it possible to make the similar request for the Id and Idpi Panel to have an alphabet displayed, (scrolling is very awkward on the pi and never returns you to where you were) and also to display assets and lyrics as JRemote does?

Thanks.

What Panel does depends on the version of MC that is in use.

We know there is still work to do with Panel.

OK that's fine, Jim. Appreciate that.

I am coming up against a playback problem that I am trying to work out.  If I can't solve it this weekend I'll start a new topic.
The pi plays an album fine in dsd64 into my dac, but then the next album I choose, whatever the file format (dsf or flac, 16or 24 bit, 44.1 96 pr 192) will refuse to play.  Even rebooting has no effect. I'll try to find where the problem lies and post anyway, even if I solve it, in case anyone else gets a similar problem at some point.

I've searched the forum but cannot find any answer.

DAC's sometimes don't handle format changes well.  You can use MC's DSP Studio > Output Settings to change what is being sent.

While I seem to have solved many of the problems I had, one remains.
After playing a dsd file, the next dsd file and subsequent files always begin at track 2.  Strange behaviour which I don't seem to be able to sort.
Do you still think it is my dac that doesn't like it?

I have been using the new Id Pi JRMC23 for a week or two now and everything has been quite smooth except today I noticed that Panel has gone completely dark on me, as in black screen.

It apparently still connects in the same way it ever did, however all I get is a black screen, everything else has vanished. The Id Pi program as a whole has been functioning flawlessly as a DLNA/UPnP server, so I'm stumped as to what happened to Panel. What can I check on to fix this problem?

I just recreated this problem in a different browser, when in the settings pane (where you have shutdown and reboot buttons) if you use the little arrow at the top left to go back to Panel, that yields the black screen and it is then permanent, closing/reopening the browser doesn't restore anything nor does flushing the cache.

So I've now got a black screen in both Safari and Chrome.

Are you running the browsers on OSX or iOS?  Can you test from another machine?

Those browsers are running on OSX Sierra, 10.12.6 specifically.

I just tried it on a Windows 7 machine, neither Chrome nor Firefox exhibits this behavior there, I can go into the system settings and then retreat using that back arrow button and go right back into Panel with no trouble.

I then tried it on my older Mac running Mountain Lion 10.8.5, there too it seems ok with both Safari and Firefox (no Chrome browser on that machine to test).

So something with Sierra then, but strange it would affect both Safari and Chrome in identical fashion, no? Lastly, I also have Firefox on this Sierra machine and it does not exhibit this problem, even stranger then that both Safari and Chrome have an issue.

That could be a video driver problem.

That could be a video driver problem.

Odd that no other web content whether video or graphics related seems to be any issue for those browsers, except for Panel which initially worked ok, but then wouldn't resume using the "back arrow" from the system settings pane.

And yet Firefox does not have that same issue in the same OS 10.13 Sierra.

I also just checked it out using the Opera 52.0 browser on OS 10.13 Sierra, no trouble there either. So Firefox and Opera have no issue, but Panel is inoperative (black screen) using either Chrome or Safari on that same OS.

I did a recent system update using 12 from the main menu and now my blank/black screen problem in Panel is gone.

Panel is now back and running as usual except for one difference, in trying to access the System Settings I get a text box demanding full authentication is required via username and password, yet that was never the case previously and I do not have Authentication enabled, thus there is no username and password for me to even enter.

What do I do to access the System Settings from Panel?

Set authentication on the server.

Set authentication on the server.

In other words authentication is now required, and I will need to enter those credentials for instance on my JRemotes as well?

You need authentication to get to system settings.  Otherwise, anyone could shut down or restart the server.

Understood, but my question was would the activation/use of authentication then necessitate adding the credentials to JRemote for instance?

I updated 2 weeks ago and it said MC:24.0.46 and Id Pi:24.0.6. With that update, the new indexing for Panel (<A  ...  Z>) at the top of library thumbnails doesn't work right (will not page to in between A and Z on an iPad). But I will find where to post this in the Panel forum.

Thanks.

There were some fixes made to this in 24.0.49. When the Id gets an update, it might resolve this issue. If you have a different instance of Media Center that is more up-to-date, you could try connecting to that instance with Panel and see if it still has that issue.

Just rebooted the Id and I assume it did an update (would be nice for headless configurations if the version numbers for Id and MC were retrievable in Panel). However, Panel is now almost unusable - on the iPad using Firefox trying to page thru the library randomly hangs Panel and thumbnails are never redrawn. Using Safari paging is a little better but, again, thumbnails are never redrawn. I will have to resume using JRemote.

Rebooting doesn't update the Id.  Choose option #12 on the text menu to update it.

so why have a "check for updates" clickable button in Panel? (which is what I did). Your saying I have to hook up a monitor and keyboard in order to update my Id?

No.  That works.  I misunderstood.

OK....well, that being said, any comments on why Panel all of a sudden went very unstable? The original reason I posted? Scrolling is broken.

While it's not much help, it's worth pointing out that it doesn't matter what browser you use on an iOS device, because all third-party web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, etc.) have to use Safari's WebKit engine and not their own (e.g. Blink, Gecko, EdgeHTML, etc.) they use on different platforms.

I only mention the browser because of earlier replies from JRiver CS to posts that recommended trying different browsers to characterize Panel issues.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for someone to comment on the unstable behavior of the current version of Panel since downloading 24.0.49 compared to 24.0.46.

What I found that fixed the instability and slowness of 24.0.49 on my iPad was to reduce the number of thumbnails from 200 per page (a ridiculous default for a mobile device) to 25. Repainting of the thumbnails and navigation are almost immediate.

One last bit of input on the current version - the "Z" is on the line below the "A" rather than across from the "A". (A formatting error).

No charge ;)

In Panel's settings, you can set the number of thumbnails to display per page.
