MC RO HQ video play -> crashing [Solved -- driver problem]
« on: April 09, 2018, 12:08:59 pm »

Since ~1 week I had the issue that MC crashes after 5-15 min of RO HQ video play. No error message - only in win event log - win unexpected error. 2 weeks ago I changed the motherboard but did not do a fresh install of win 10 Pro.

Today I installed win 10 pro from the ground up. After installing win 10 (installs Nvidia Driver 388.13 Version) everything seems ok.

But then: Windows automatically upgrade's to the latest service pack 1709.

RO Standard seems to be OK. But RO HQ crashes with the error message :"Display driver failed to start. Display driver failed to start; using Microsoft Basic Display Driver instead. Check Windows Update for a newer display driver"

I then installed latest Nvidia drivers, but same problem. RO Standard works.

Reason for the error seems to fix pack 1709?

How to fix this?

What mode you using in ROHQ? ... Full Screen Exclusive? ... Full Windowed D3D11? ... using 3D? ... 4K?

My MC used to crash if I ran 2D movies in Full Windowed D3D11 while 3D setting in NVIDIA control panel was enabled.

General Settings: set D3D11=enabled. -> did not immediately lead to a crash. I will test it little bite more and see.

3h playing without any issues. set D3D11=enabled seems to be the solution.
