Theater View OpenGL Issue
« on: April 17, 2018, 06:00:09 pm »

Just upgraded from v 21 to v 24 x64 & have an issue with Theater View. I'm receiving an error message that openGL 1.1 is installed. Theater View screen locks up with message that openGL 2.1 is required.

The  OpenGL extension viewer app reports I'm running openGL v3.1 with driver 9.17.10.4459 dated 5-19-2016.

Windows 10 update, Lenovo System update & Intel driver support assistant all show PC is up to date.

Hardware: Intel HD Graphics 3000, intel 6 series  C200 chipset, Win 10 Lenovo T420s, 4 GB RAM

I've been using ver 21 for several years with Theater View working ok on T420s laptop.
Using JR MC on laptop as renderer with android tablet/phone running Gizmo as remote.

Any ideas how to get v24 x64 Theater View working?
Thanks, Steve

Try using a 32-bit build, maybe your driver is failing to provide a proper 64-bit OpenGL driver (and the extension viewer is probably 32-bit).
Its also possible the HD3000 driver just doesn't work properly on Windows 10, its not an officially supported OS for that hardware by Intel, unfortunately. There are a lot of reports to be found on the internet about general issues running that graphics card on Windows 10 (and specifically related to OpenGL as well).

My guess would be that it comes down to your graphics card just not being supported on Windows 10, as unfortunate as that is, but it is well documented that Intel does not offer drivers or support for the HD3000 for Windows 10.

PS:
And for why it may work in the extension viewer, Media Center sets itself up as an actual Windows 10 application, because that has certain advantages. Many other applications don't, so they run in a compatibility mode which makes Windows treat it differently, and in fact even makes it pretend that its Windows 8 if you ask about the Windows version. That may make all the difference if you're dealing with drivers for example that are not designed for Windows 10. Unfortunately its not an option for MC to somehow "fake" that.

intel HD 3000 driver does not support win 10 - latest supported downloadable version on intel's website was win 8.1.  The driver for HD 3000 comes only with Win 10 and updates with Win 10 updates.
