Hope this is the right group.
Sometimes, if I come across a used-record shop, or I'm travelling out of town or whatever, I may come across a record which I'm not sure whether I've got in my collection or not (like, Haydn wrote a lot of symphonies). So I'd like to check. Could I do this by using i.e. JRemote? I guess my whole collection will be there, just without any connection to my player, is that right? I will still be able to browse through it just to see what is there, or is there another and/or better method?

So, it shouldn't be too hard to carry a searchable index of your library on your phone.

Astromo and Jrome: thanks for your replies, and apologizes for my late response (I've been away for a few days).
But:
- using Excel - which I've tried - the problem is that most of my records are classical, and using Excel would only create a spreadsheet with one line per file. And as one record would sometimes be 50-60 files, that would take 50-60 lines in the spreadsheet. But I may off course have done something wrong, like using the wrong view, or something. If you can point your finger at it, please do so! :-)

Thanks. Although it's been some time since I last tried Discogs, they seem quite familiar to me, but most likely it's my memory to blame. :-) Any idea how these two work, compared to each other?
