Strange problem with filtering by location

I have a directory set up called CD Rips where all my rips go until I have had a chance to review them. So, I created a Smartlist called New Rips (I know that there's a Recently Ripped smartlist, but it seems to clear itself out after each restart). So, I selected location=D:\My Music\CD Rips" and nothing showed up. Then I stripped off CD Rips, and everything in the My Music directory appeared. Then I changed it to D:\My Music\CD and all the songs in my CD Rips directory appeared correctly. But when I added the word Rip again, everything disappeared.

Any thoughts on why this would be happening?

the smartlist can be set not to clear in the options screen.
