Bug? Loss of focus within view
« on: April 23, 2018, 10:58:54 pm »

I just upgraded to MC24 and noticed a change in the interface that may have been unintentional.

I'm not sure if I'm using the correct interface terms, so I'll try and be descriptive.

I have several views of my media that have categories? in panes?. I often use these categories as filters.

Within a view, I select a TV series in the category pane (and maybe other criteria). I then click in the search box and type something.

Before upgrading MC would leave the series selected after typing in the search box. Result: I was searching for the text within the series.

After upgrading, MC removes the series "filter" and shows me all series that match the text I searched for. Result: I'm searching for the text in all series and have to reselect the series i was searching in.

Can MC24 revert back to the previous behavior?

There have been some changes to search recently.

Have a look in the Release Notes to see what was changed. What you're seeing may or may not be intentional.

BTW, if you do the process the other way around, first enter the search term, then select items in the panes, the functionality works as expected.

Intentional or not the change doesn't work well for me.

My typical use case: I select a TV series and then search for episode titles or descriptions. I often search in the same series multiple times. Each time I type a new search term, I have to reselect the series.

Not if you search multiple times in the same series. You have to keep re-selecting the series.

This isn't fixed in v25. Please fix!

Still not fixed in v30.

Any chance of this being fixed?

elprice7345 may be sounding like a stuck record, but I support the request.

I use this approach, a lot.

I would typically filter down using panes, then treat the search bar as one, final, temporary filter level, and tada, there's what I'm looking for...
I've been trying to retrain myself, but that's not going so well..., I'm old :)

It's been this way since build 14...

2. Fixed: Opening a drop down pane when there was a search with no results could crash. Now search resets the drop down pane selection.
Search is actually resetting any kind of pane selection, regular or drop down.

I didn't mention it before as my gut told me we were just going to have to get used to it this way, but, if it could be made to not reset regular panes, that would be wonderful.

If we can fix this without causing other problems, we will.

The change was made because opening a drop-down pane when there was a search with no results would crash.

I instead just made a search reset the pane selection.

@marko - Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of drop down panes until now and also wasn't aware of the change being made to fix a bug. I still prefer top panes in my views, but I'm glad I learned about them. I'm always learning something new with MC!

@jimh, @matt - Hopefully, this can be fixed.

You've linked to the main MC24 board, so, before these get separated by the speed the board moves at...
I just traced the crash and fixed it for version 25.

So the search will work again with the panes once v25 ships.

Great news, thanks Matt, appreciated as always.
