I've managed to import most of my library but now upon start-up MC either crashes when I press any of the tabs on the left of the screen (audio, player etc) or they are unresponsive and then MC crashes... ?

Any help please?

P.S. Just tested - I can stream using JRemote but if I touch any tabs on the Macs MC menu it crashes.

Further to my previous post, this problem continues and I've also tried using MC22 and MC24 and they also crash when adding my library.
I've searched the forum and online generally for clues but the best I can come up with, is to go through my library and remove any ':' that appear in my library in case that was a trigger. Any help please?

I previously tried using MC22 in 2016 and posted in the forum but gave up to this issue as no solution to was found and my final post asking for help was left unanswered. I really want JRiver to work properly, as when it does I love it (especially with JRemote) but the continual crashes are incredibly frustrating and I've no idea how to fix them

With MC22 the menu does not freeze (then crash like MC23) however it crashes when adding my library.

You may have some bad files. Take a look at the wiki topic called "Logging". Turn it on. When MC crashes, view the previous log and near the bottom, you should see what it's doing.

I already posted a crash log in my first post at the top of the page.

Most recent crash log was too big to upload, not sure why it's so big?

Did you take a look at it? Look near the bottom of the previous log. You may see "crash" in the text. Or you may see what file it's opening.

The first crash log I posted above seems to stop at 'sharing plugins'.

The most recent crash log stops at a folder containing m4p files - which I can imagine might cause issues.
I'm going to remove them from library, convert to mp3 and re-import.

My current attempt at adding my library (after removing files with ':' has been running for a a few hours now)...

In the options for Import, you can set what filetypes to import.

Make sure you're looking at the right log. If MC crashes, and you run it again, the relevant log for the crash will be the "Previous Log".

Whilst the import was going on, I thought I'd add a smart playlist to show all the bad files - based on the wiki.JRiver article.

Once I pressed add smart playlist MC22 crashed again.

I've attached the crash log to this post.

Is it crashing or freezing?

With a freeze, the interface is still there but unresponsive.

With a crash, the interface disappears completely. The program is gone.

It's crashing on MC22.

(In my first post I was trying MC23 and that would freeze (i'd get the mac spinning ball) and after 20 seconds or so it would crash).

I did try MC24 earlier this week but that was crashing too but I will try and again now and then upload a log if it crashes again.

So far this week I've tried MC22, MC23 and MC24.

I'm running Sierra 10.12.4

I'd recommend moving all m4p files from your library, as those are DRM-protected QuickTime/iTunes files which can only be played in QuickTime/iTunes and *can* cause MC to crash.

Yes, I removed all m4p files prior to the current attempt at importing my library to MC24.

The current import has been running for around 8 hours and it's currently added around 106,000 files.
One thing I've noticed with MC24 is that the importing media/adding files tab at the bottom left of the screen does not work properly.

The number of added files will stay static unless I reduce and then enlarge the 'importing media' tab and only then will it 'refresh' and show me the latest number of files added - but this will also then be static.
On other versions of MC it's always shown me a running total and I can see as each file is added.

Fingers crossed this import goes better now I've removed all files with the ':' character as well as the m4p files.

Ok, so MC24 just crashed after about 10 hours of importing my library. I've checked the log and the last entries all featured this:

I am unable to upload the log as it is 3.1mb in size and over the limit for uploading here...

Am I missing something/doing something wrong?

Thanks for the log. It's spending a lot of time trying to import protected "m4b" audio books. Please try the next build which will not try to import those files. Or you could move those files to a location that doesn't get imported by Media Center. Currently they're under "/Volumes/All Audiobooks/All Audiobooks (Including iTunes Library)"

This is a good idea. Honestly, since QuickTime support was dropped (at least on Windows) with MC24, MC24 and above should ignore both m4p files along with m4b files since they'll just be a constant source of crashes like this.

Yeah, it will ignore m4p files as well.

The other anomaly in the log is a bunch of "bad file" errors on cue files. For example:

0317094: 249643008: Import: AddFile: Skipping bad file: /Volumes/All Classical and Opera/ Artists Conductors Etc/ Singer Stuff/Maria Chiara - The Decca Recitals (1972) [FLAC]/CD1/Maria Chiara - The Decca Recitals (1972) [FLAC] CD1.cue

Is there any way you could upload one of these cue files (cue + flac) for us to test? I know they're probably kind of huge.

I'll amend the import settings and won't include the m4b files. However I can't seem to find the aforementioned m4v DRM-protected files in the log?

Also should I remove the handful of mp4 and mkv files I've noticed are in the audio libraries I'm adding?

Re the bad cue/flac files I'll try and upload the file JohnT mentioned later tonight.

m4v is just another DRM-protected file types Apple used for their video downloads. I just mentioned it since John already was adding m4p and m4b to the ignore list, just in case MC in general ever tried importing m4v files.

Not sure of any other file types Apple used with their DRM-protected files.

MC24 crashed a couple more times trying to import my whole library.

I've finally realised I'm being WAY too ambitious trying to import a 24TB library all in one go

I'm now just importing single segments of my NAS one at a time.

Currently importing my Audiobook folder (4TB) and have deselected iTunes protected files (m4b etc) from being imported.
So far it's all gone fine and MC24 is now just 'getting cover art'.

Ok, so I left MC24 running over night and it had added my audiobook library and was now adding my Classical FLAC library.

This morning it was finishing processing thumbnails/getting art when I decided to click the menu bar on the left of the screen.
I clicked audio and then files - this caused MC24 to crash

I've attached the link to the crash log here. It's 37mb! Why is it so big - when I unzipped it was then 750mb?

Also, I realised that even though I thought I had removed all my drives from the auto import selection, in fact they were still in my library.

Update: trying to add last section of my library - 'All Rock Pop Jazz Blues Etc' which is 3,62TB in size.
(This is MC24 to be clear).

I have tried 3 or 4 times to add now and below is the most recent crash log. All iTunes protected files are excluded from being added to library, also all video files are excluded too.
