No. The IdPi is not a viable option. The IdNuc would not work either. The board will not fit inside the case, and its PCI express configuration is a single M.2 slot that houses the wireless card.

No reason not to use the internal ports.
You're better off replacing the DAC if it's old enough or badly designed enough that the USB connection is affecting the audio quality.
Even a cheap <$100 Behringer audio interface can get this right.

Depending on the capabilities of your DAC (which you haven't defined) and the Id NUC model (if it's current generation then S/PDIF Toslink Optical Out is available out of the box according to the specs), you may not need any additional hardware at all.

Even so, I like the whole IdPi plan and the potential to take advantage of various audiophile HATs that are out there.
