Volume and bitstream
« on: June 04, 2018, 11:20:45 am »

Hi, I need to adjust the volume with MC instead of the receiver but, despite having selected "enable volume when bistreaming" and system volume, it does not work. The volume bar appears, but moving it does not happen: should something else be activated?

I think you need to check- Internal Volume

The guide states that Internal Volume does not work when bitstreaming. I tried it anyway, but it does not work

Pretty sure Enable Volume for bitstreaming only works for a few specific DACs that have special drivers that allow that.

... despite having selected "enable volume when bistreaming" ...
Cannot find that setting in MC24 but it sounds like an oxymoron, I cannot see how you can bitstream and change the volume in MC.
I would have thought they were mutually exclusive.

Cannot find that setting in MC24

In the main MC window next to the volume slider, right click the volume icon and it's there as an option.

My understanding is that some DAC drivers can forward volume control commands to the DAC itself.
So Media Center is still bitstreaming - the audio data is untouched - but the volume control is enabled and sent as metadata alongside the audio stream.
Very few devices support this, and none of them are a standard AVR, as far as I am aware.

I see very little reason to bitstream audio in Media Center unless you are playing Atmos content, or your device does not support multichannel LPCM.
