Hard drive issue
« on: June 15, 2018, 10:03:43 pm »

Can someone help me with a drive issue?
Sometimes when I start jriver one of my drives is not showing, so I reboot the computer.
Then when I do a a media import it brings in all my files as if they are new and I cant work out what we have watched as all the last watched are removed.
This started recently after I updated to 104,maybe a coincidence but not sure

This sounds like the hard drive is starting to fail, or if it is a USB connected drive something is wrong with the USB port/connection/driver.

To protect your settings in the library and avoid files being re-imported, change the configuration of Auto Import. i.e. Change the Setting "Fix broken links:" to "Yes (protect files on missing drives)".

MC will then show the files with a red circle with white line through it icon, showing they are not available when the drive isn't connected, and will fix that when the drive re-connects, without re-importing.

As for your drive, you need to work out why it doesn't connect sometimes. I use HD Sentinel to monitor my drives all the time. Use that or something else to check the drive when it is connected, and if it is okay, then suspect the connection/cable. If it is a USB drive, perhaps try a different port.

If the drive is showing problems, replace it sooner rather than later.

It is an internal drive.
Fix broken links is already set to "Yes (protect files on missing drives)".

Hmmm, maybe that setting only works for removable drives, which Windows and hence MC knows about. So it has no effect on an internal drive? I've never tried testing that!

As it is an internal drive, your really need to check the drive itself, by looking at the SMART data on the drive, or using a utility to check. HD Sentinel is good at that.

You could also try checking the internal cables, changing the SATA port used, and running any HD Diagnostic utility the manufacturer provides. Don't delay though. With these sorts of symptoms a HD can completely fail quite quickly.

By all means, try that, but if Windows can't see the drive at the same time as MC can't, then the drive is the issue. The timing of the problem is likely coincidence.
