38" widescreen 21:9 (2.40:1) 75Hz HDR Monitor with madVR
« on: June 21, 2018, 07:48:43 am »

Hi All

I've replaced my computers 28" 4K monitor with a 38" 3840x1600 HDR monitor that supports 75hz. (Acer  XR382CQK)

I was wondering how madVR handles 3:3 pull down with smooth motion OFF and with the monitor running @ 71.928Hz ?

Does madVR repeat each frame 3 times?

I have to say 4K film motion judder looks much better @ 72p than running native 24p @ 24Hz.
This is without any motion interpolation or smoothing.

I'm pretty impressed with this monitor I have to say.

It's plenty bright @ about 330nits and just the perfect size at desk sitting distance. (it's not full HDR10 but windows 10 detects it as a HDR monitor and the images definitely have more pop with HDR mode on)
Text scaling is perfect @ 100% too.

The film Passengers in 4K is particularly good on this monitor at close proximity.  The picture looks 3D and pops off the screen with amazingly sharp detail.

I have a logitech Z906 5.1 sound system hooked up to the PC with some bigger Sony Reference speakers for L/R and the surrounds mounted on the sides of the chair behind my head, so I think I've found a new favourite way to watch movies on my own!  :)
