How to save "progress"?
« on: July 03, 2018, 04:36:51 pm »

Hi folks

Probably there was this question before but I was unable to find it so apologies for it if anyone can share a link, that would be great.

My question is, how can I save everything I've done in MC24 like how many times I've played every song or every song ratings, covers and general look of my MC24.

There must be a simple way to save it in case I will format disc C or change PC but how?

Thanks for any guidance.

All of this is saved in your library back-ups. If you go to tools>file location, at the bottom you will see program files and in that it the address at which your backups are being kept. It is a good idea to copy these to a folder on a different drive now and then to preserve them in case of a drive failure.

So basically if I copy everything from C:\Users\Adam\Documents\JRiver\Media Center 24\Library Backups\ to another folder and after formatting C drive I will paste those files there again, MC24 will detect those files and everything will be restored right?
If I change this path from C:\Users\Adam\Documents\JRiver\Media Center 24\Library Backups\ to D:\JRiver\Media Center 24\Library Backups\ then it still will work but my progress will be always on another drive?

As far as I am aware that is correct.

Why not make a fresh backup and save it to a removable drive?

I think one actually needs to install the backup.

It's just a case of File>Library>Restore Backup and selecting the back up you want to restore from.

more importantly - do you have all of your media files backed up. A drive failure on your media file storage will make your library backup seem inconsequential.

All my music/video files are on separate HDD, same goes for Library Backups, I know I can manually backup my Library Backups from time to time but what if I set up Library Backups on different location than default? will MC24 save everything in separate disc than C? that looks more secure for me but will it work?

Just do a manual library backup. :)

Read about backup and restore in the wiki.

Backup is under the File Menu, then Library.

Search for *.zip in Explorer to find backups if necessary.

It worked! :) just some covers are not showing up so I have to add them manually, at least all play counts and ratings are back.
Unfortunately, I lost my activation code for MC24 and when I try to restore it by giving the email address or "restore page", I'm not receiving any emails :/

Can I get help with my music library?
After I've changed PC and therefore HDD, my music collection had a different location than restored library had.
So on my old PC, my music was on G drive, now is on F, I've updated file location in settings but MC24 does not see it, it shows the old location as shown on the screenshot.
Is there any way to keep my progress from imported library but also update the new file location path?

I think the easiest way to deal with this is to use Windows disk manager and assign the drive letter back to G:
