Feature (or Plug-in) Request: MP3 corruption
« on: June 02, 2003, 12:59:12 pm »

I know.  I request lots of things.  But this one could actually be useful.

Seeing a recent post on MP3 repair, I was wondering if it would be possible to either include in the Audio Analysis component of MC, or for some plug-in creator to construct, something which can analyze MP3s for corruption.  You know, the kind when we hear that nasty, spine-tingling little chirp in the middle of one of our songs.  I've found a stand-alone utility which scans for these problems, but it's quite old and not part of Media Center.  I don't know much about the structure of MP3s, but someone here does, don't they ?

There is a very nice free utiliy mp3 book helper, that verifies that the sound part of a mp3 has not change. It first createst a checksum list of created from these parts of the mp3. Very customizeable tool. Can also be used to find doubles (same sound, different tags), changed names (same sound, filename changed). It can be downloaded somewhere from sourceforge.com, should be easy to find by google.

I use it all the time; MC9 never caused a corruption for me yet. But if it does, I will know :)

you can use MP3Utility or the so good so cheap MP3 Tester.
You just have to set them as external tools from the 'send to [external] 'and it will work as you want

there are a few good ones

MP3\Utility works but is not as good as Helium, there is also MP3 Check And Convert and MP3 tester.

I recently had a chat with the programer of MP3 Tester, and got him to add "Delete" to the program an update is aval on his web site, it needs work but has a few good options.

Helium http://www.helium2.com/

Thanks all,

I had no idea I could route the songs to an external program for analysis.  I'm looking over all the suggested programs, and a couple of them are really nice.  One question, though, for anyone who can answer it.  When I set up the External program parameters, what can I use to send multiple (x) files over without having the program spawn (x) times ?  Is there any parameter, instead of [Filename] which will work better on multiple files?

I do not run any of the programs using MC9's external program option.

don't think you will ever see this work correctly.

1. you have to have MC9 support it
2. you will need to get the program to support MC9

only that way you could send batches of files to an external program.

so your asking for something that will never happen.
