So, in DSP Studio, what is the difference between 'Flat Line Overflows and Clip Protection'? And what are they actually for?

Clip protection turns the volume down to compensate.  Flat lining just caps the volume at the max and leaves the volume alone.

Matt, in the analog world (which this isn't) flatlining the waveform would result in audible distortion (and DC current going to the speakers; very bad). 

Are you saying that "flat line overflows" doesn't distort tonally, but simply doesn't output over maximum volume?  That would seem to differ with the wiki, which warns of audible distortion when using flat line overflow.

Can you please clarify?  I've been trying to resolve clipping issues lately and am curious.

Flatlining an overflow won't sound good.  I would recommend clip protection.
