MC launching automatically with Windows despite settings

Running MC24 on Windows 7

Although "Run on Windows startup" in Options is set to Media Server (only), the main MC window always opens as well.

Suggestions welcome...

You don't have two versions of MC installed by any chance and it's the 'other' version that's actually starting?

Nope.

I double-checked the Windows startup programs with a tool I have and it shows the program as Media Center 24.exe /Boot

by chance it's not in the startup folder is it?

Nope.

I found it in the end.

I checked again today and yesterday's entry Media Center 24.exe /Boot (in HKCU\SoftwareMicrosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run) had mysteriously changed to Media Center 23.exe /Boot... but MC24 was launched in any case...  hmmmm

The Windows Registry still had many entries for MC23, even though it has long been de-installed.

No idea why the main window was launching regardless of Registry entries / MC versions, since MC23 was also set to only run the Media Server on startup before it was deinstalled.

Seems to be a freak registry issue. Hopefully it won't happen again now that I have removed all instances of MC23 form the Registry.
