Cannot stream Flac
« on: November 14, 2018, 11:57:06 pm »

Did not know where to post this. DLNA setup, tried every word length. WMA on. followed everything I could read here. It will not stream any commercial Flac stations. I mean a URL.

Even tried JRiver using browser. tidal works fine as does JRiver Audio library. It plays Flac Locally. Only thing I can think of. It will not play lossy Flac? Perhaps it is denying it. It will not put the URl in the now playing list. If I work around that, it simply says "there is nothing to play" AAC,Mp3 streams ETC. work just fine. I really want this to work or I am going to have to use Foobar! Speaking of which I even had it open Foobar externally to play. Click play on Foobar and then nothing either. Foobar itself plays them all. Plus that is just really using Foobar as the engine anyhow. Which IMO defeats the whole purpose of JRiver. If anyone has any "obscure" ideas what may be preventing playback it would be much appreciated. Thank you

You can't re-stream a URL over DLNA.  DLNA won't do that.

Not the easiest way but I can open in browser inside using Chromium setting. I guess that is the only way. Strange it streams anything from a URL but FLAC. I guess I found a work around though.

Can you be a bit more specific about what you are trying to do?

What device are you playing to. is it a DLNA renderer?

There are other ways to get bit perfect audio to DLNA without using flac.

Trying to play a FLAC internet radio stream via a URL. I can use secure or HTTP. I do not understand why it even needs DNLA? It will not load. Try 20 times, loads but then responds "there is nothing to play". Have tried 11 different FLAC streams from different stations. Thank you for help.

It doesn't need DLNA to do that. You are using File->Open URL ??
If so, please post the URL here or PM it to me, thanks.

This is a FLAC-in-Ogg stream, which we don't currently support. But I can see if we can change that.
Its surprisingly rare to put FLAC into the Ogg container.

Coming in a future build of MC24:
NEW: Support for FLAC-in-Ogg files and streams.

There is a bit of weirdness with this, since it'll only work if the file is called ".flac", and not ".ogg", since that would otherwise try to use the OggVorbis decoder. But your stream is called .flac, so its fine.

Thank you all. I figured it had to be a limitation of JRiver. I had tried everything.
Done for now until update.

When I looked at this quite a while ago in regards to DLNA transcoding, it was useful to use  FLAC-in-Ogg because you could seek into a FLAC-in-Ogg stream without a content-length but I couldn't find anything that could play that back.

Wait until 24.0.64 or a higher build is released publicly. Hopefully it works then. :)
