Update question
« on: November 28, 2018, 02:25:51 pm »

The update scheme again... I have MC set to the 'Latest' channel, but was on version 24.0.60 until today... does that mean 24.0.61 - .64 were beta versions only?

Thank you, that makes sense... ;-)

By the way, since 'Latest' versions gave me some crashes I'd like to return to the 'Stable' channel... Can you tell when the next stable release will come out (for me to transition seamlessly... ;-)?

Sorry, not beta testing (and some instability is normal with minor releases), but I think it was related to opening/closing the (new) tag editor... Also, the crashes seem to have erased my tag editor configuration (was back on defaults afterwards)... Otherwise the new tag editor design is a great idea!

But back to my question: When on the 'Latest' channel, how can I find out when a 'Stable' version is released? Thank you...

You can always dowload and install from the download page.  But I don't think this build (65) is unstable.

Sure, but the idea was to hope for the next 'Latest' release to eventually fix the cause for crashes... ;-)

Yes, I know that (and will do if version 65 crashes on me too often... ;-) What I meant was: how will I know about a 'Stable' release while I'm still using the 'Latest' channel (for reasons see above)...

If you figure out how to reproduce those crashes, I'm sure the devs would like to know. ;)

Sure, I'll keep an eye on it (but really prefer to leave that to beta testers ;-)...

But in earnest, the bad thing about crashes is, they always occur at odd times, so I'm basically just restarting MC and happy to quickly forget about them (rather than reproduce)...

If you complain about crashes but don't give us hints on when they happen, then its far less likely that this will actually happen. ;-)

I use the tag editor quite a bit, and it's never crashed on me. And I've not seen any reports from any beta testers regarding crashes when opening/closing the tag editor either.

Hendrik's exactly right, if no beta testers (or devs) have reported it nor can reproduce it it's kinda hard to fix it if you're the only one experiencing it. :)

Well, the only thing I can remember is the crash(es) occured during audio playback (stereo flac source, converted to 6 channels + EQ), with the G-Force visualizer running, when I was about to import & tag some new audio files... So the issue may be related to many things, including the visualizer...

Anyway, please note that my initial post was not a complaint... In fact I haven't seen MC crash for years while on the 'Stable' update channel, but several since I changed to 'Latest'... That's all I can say.
