Guide not updating Solved
« on: January 07, 2019, 08:08:02 pm »

I have been having issues with the guide not getting updated. I went through all of my settings and it is set to update every 24 hrs but it is not working. yesterday I had to do a manual scan to get it updated and all seemed well and today about of my channels had no program info. I manually did a guide update and the info filled in. I am using schedules direct just like I have been for the last year. This started sometime last month and I have not been able to straighten it out. Any ideas? I updated to the latest MC 24 version yesterday also and it did not change anything. I reread all of the wiki information and also the USA tv set up guide and cannot see where I have set anything up incorrectly.

What does "TV Logs" (in Standard view) say?

The log shows epg data loading back near the start of December. It then started show epg loading failed execution of external program was successful  but no data was loaded. then Background epg loading MC2XML.country:us postal code.43512,data source Standard provider token ATSC.
Then it started showing background epg loading.XMLTV.data file.C:\Program file:X86\JRiver\Media Center24\TV\ATSC\QuamStandardxml.

I have always used MC2XML and some how it switched to using XMLTV. I noticed this about two weeks ago and redid the setup and switch it back to using MC2XML and did a scan. The latest logs do not show any EPG scans since December 22. I checked my settings this morning and every thing looks ok but I have to manually scan to get refreshed data. Can I be missing something?

I've had a very similar thing happen to me, more than once. I would fix it, it would work for about 10 days, then go back to the same issue. About 4 months ago I finally gave up, and now using Windows Task Manager to do the sched dir downloading, then tell MC to simply import from file.

I am logged in as a regular user but I have full admin privileges. I am the only user on this computer. I went through the settings again this morning and started over with set up. It is set to upgrade guide data in the background every two hours. I will check the TV logs tomorrow morning to see if anything has changed. What is strange is it worked for the last year without any issues but after I switched from MC 23 32 bit to MC 24 64 bit the problem started. When I switched, I completely started over with a clean install and all new settings etc.

Why are you updating the guide so often?  Once each day would be often enough.

Online EPG source usually update their data once, or maybe twice, each day.  It is therefore not beneficial to set MC to update EPG more frequently.  Some online EPG data supplier would limit how many times they allow you to run updates.

Just thought I would try it to see what shows up on the logs. Tomorrow I will set it back to every 24 hours like I had it set before.

I just checked the TV log and the guide did not update at all last night. I reset it to scan every 24 hours and set a time of 4:00 am. I will see what happens tomorrow. When I looked at the guide this morning some channels had program info not available after I manually scanned they now have program info. I will check back tomorrow.

Thanks for the link. My issue is everything worked fine with guide updating for about one year and then suddenly changed when I upgraded to version MC 24 64 bit. Makes me think I have missed something in the set up or something changed in version 24. I will keep everyone updated when I figure this out and get it working properly.

I just checked and the guide updated at 4:00 am this morning just like it is supposed to. I am not sure what I did to get it working but it is for now. Thanks to all who helped and If something changes I will reopen this thread.
