Movie files missing
« on: March 09, 2019, 05:08:02 am »

When I add a folder to the Auto search, lets say for example E:\Movies\GodFather\ then the movies inside that folder, all get deleted, and they get replaced with a load of JRiver data files.

It does not go into any deeper folders, so it seems that anything inside E:\Movies\GodFather\Part I\ and so on, are fine.

When you say "Auto search" do you mean "Auto Import" as found under Tools > Import > Configure auto import?
If not, could you explain in more detail?

How many data files is "a load"?
For video files, MC saves a jpg for cover art, and an xml sidecar file for the tags beside each video file, named the same as the matching video file.

What are the names of some of the MC data files?

We need the answers to these questions to try and figure out what might be wrong at your end. MC will not delete your files unless you specifically instruct it to do so.

JRiver doesn't delete files unless you tell it to.

The JRiver files are probably just an icon that identifies what application the files are associated with.  You can change that in Options > File types.

Ok, well, I have v23 on this PC. v24 is on my Media Centre

Yes, I did mean AUTO IMPORT not AUTO SEARCH sorry.

I have just run v23 and it did indeed delete all files that are NOT inside any folders.

The files it makes, are all .JMD files, right now, it just added only

user, browser, removeable, playlistx, mediafiles, and lock, and these are .jml
and also podcast.xml

It has done a whole load of other such files previously.

I fully understand that you say that it does NOT delete any files unless asked, but the fact still remains that they are being deleted and I have NOT asked it to!

I have just run JMC v23, and bang, I realised that I should have backed up my files cos once again, I just lost a load of them again.

Now, when I first ran it, I was using a different library.... I then changed it back to my Main one, and thats when the ones in the first library, got wiped.

I need to reproduce that, with some dummy files..

It sounds like you're putting files in the library folder.  You need the library folder to be someplace separate that you never touch.
