Problems with Playback
« on: March 15, 2019, 12:32:33 pm »

I recently upgraded to JRiver 24 yesterday.

I was previously running JRiver 22.

While in 22, I received an error message stating that something went wrong with playback.

Specifically, "Playback cannot be started on the output 'ASIO' using using the format '44.1 Khz 2 ch".

I verified the operation of my DAC and that the signal was being sent via USB to my device.

I decided to upgrade to 24 and my files were able to play.

However, I received the same message this morning in the newer version and do not know how to correct the issue.

The hardware, the software is causing an issue.

Can anyone please be of assistance?

Thanks -

Are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of MC24? Reason I ask that is MC22 was 32-bit only, so perhaps your ASIO driver is only 32-bit? That's assuming of course you're using the 64-bit version of MC24. If that's indeed the case and you're using the 64-bit version of MC24, try uninstalling the 64-bit MC24 build and installing the 32-bit MC24 build instead.

Thanks for the response.  Pretty sure that I am in 32 bit.  Can you please tell me how to confirm?  Thanks!

Well, if you're using the 64-bit version you can go to the Help menu > About Media Center...

At the top of that dialog you'll see (64-bit) if you're using the 64-bit build of Media Center.

Hmmm. What's your setup? Are you using a USB DAC? What output connection are you using? Bluetooth involved?

Which USB DAC? This might sound odd, but have you tried the reverse of my thought above and try using the 64-bit version of MC to see if that works? It's a bit of a long shot and it's a little bit of a mystery to me why ASIO works in MC22 but not MC24 when it *should*.

iFi Micro DAC2

Device worked fine in old version until yesterday.

Thought that the new V of JRiver might fix the issue.

Been using the same DAC since last fall.

I have a similar problem with my setup.  My problem is my windows 10.  I have my PC connected to my receiver via HDMI.  Every time I turn off the receiver windows disconnects from that audio device.   When I turn it back on, windows does not always sees the sound device properly.   If you open the properties of the sound device, when this occurs you will not see all the formats the device should be able to play.  IE. 5.1, dts, true-HD and so on.   The only fix so far is to restart windows

HDMI can do that.  Try a Google search for the problem.  There are devices you can use to fix it.  Here's one:

I agree.
About your hdmi-issue: is the hdmi to receiver only for audio? The 'iFi Micro iDAC2' mentioned by Escott377 could be a solution, but again... very expensive.

Mostly video,  its not too bad of an issue for me.  Its just me using the system.  I like I can restart my PC from media center and I use EventGhost to load a few things back up when the system restarts.  I have a high end gaming PC and it reboots in less then 10 seconds so not so bad.
