Playlist v Smartlist
« on: March 20, 2019, 02:05:16 am »

Hubby is making playlist of songs he likes eg teen years, would it be better to use smartlist for this purpose?

I have no idea how to use smartlists and playlist are simple, which is better?

Thanks for asking, keen to follow this thread.
I barely use playlists, almost exclusively nested views with plenty of rules (is that what you meant with smartlist?). It gives me more flexibility.

A playlist is a simple list of items you have chosen and put in it manually.
A smartlist is a list generated from the criteria you set in the configuration for it.

That's how I see them anyway :)

A smart list is basically a saved search.

If for example you set a search rule for the smart list to list tracks where the artist is "bob", then that's what you'll get listed.

The "smart" happens when you add some new tracks by " bob" to your library... These new tracks will automatically appear in your "bob" smart list along with the others.

You just used more words :)
