ripping multiple artists CD to single directory?
« on: May 13, 2003, 06:52:48 am »

I seem to remember an option that put all the files from a multiple artist CD in the same folder but I can no longer find it and the functionality seems to have gone away. Is it still there but I am blind? I thought this was really helpful functionality and I miss it.

OK, maybe I am just not understanding this. It seems to do what I want for come of the compilation CDs but not others. How does it decide what an assorted CD is? Can I force a CD to be assorted?

You can change the directory/filenaming parameters in Tools/Options/File Naming & Location.

For example, when I rip a single artist disc my scheme is :

Base Path: D:\Music\

Directory Rule: [Artist]\[Album]

Filename Rule: [Artist] - [Album] - [Track #] - [Name]

When I rip a multiple artist disc, I change the scheme to:

Base Path: D:\Music\

Directory Rule: [Album]

Filename Rule: [Album] - [Track #] - [Artist] - [Name]

Hi Jeffh,
I also was looking to for just an Album directory, but that option is not available to me under Tools /Options /File naming & location.

Hi Jeffh,

Just typing from memory here. MC9 is smart enough to guess that if for a given album the artist fields has different entries then it's a "Various Folks" album.
In this situation MC9 will by default store the ripped tracks in a directory structure such as "Assorted/[Album]/Artist - Name.mp3".
Now, if you're like me and you fill the [Album Artist] field with some name of your choice, then MC9 will store the new tracks in "[Album Artist]/[Album]/Artist - Name.etc"

So by default (no Album ARtist) MC9 will direct your "Various Artists" Albums to "Assorted/Album..."

Capito ?

Hope this helps a bit
