I had to look up who CCR was (I know...)

Creedence Clearwater Revival, who I know well from my SF days.  I ended up reading the Wikipedia topic.  What an amazingly difficult time for a great band.

I've been using the Try Me radio button at the top of the Cloudplay page a lot lately, mainly to get a sense of how good the music that's been uploaded is.  I'm surprised at how listenable the station is.

Here's an example of what it's playing just now:

Anna (Go to Him)  The Beatles - Please Please Me

Paradise Now    The Liminanas - NOVA - LeGrandMix 2016 - CD6

Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl   Boz Scaggs - Memphis

06. By Myself   Ann Burton - By Myself

Dream A Little Dream Of Me   Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong For Lovers

Fall Together    The Temper Trap - Mike's 2016

Odds And Ends    Dionne Warwick - The Look Of Love [Disc 3]

Seems Like a Long Time    Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells a Story

La Vecchia Giacca Nuova    Paolo Conte - Tutto Conte - Via Con Me - Disc 2

La partida    Niño Josele - Española

Agua de beber   Victoria Abril - Putcheros do Brasil

I've used the new filter in Tools > Options > Cloudplay to remove a couple of genres I don't listen to (Punk and Metal) but otherwise, it's representative of what's on Cloudplay.

Thanks for the uploads.  Keep them coming.  We'll break 80,000 tracks today or tomorrow.

As we prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, I have uploaded another chart countdown playlist. It's the top 30 from the Cashbox pop singles chart for the week ending July 26, 1969. You can check out the hits playing on earth while Armstrong and Aldrin were walking on the moon! You might find the variety of the music interesting and perhaps surprising.

I've also included record called "First Man on the Moon" at the end. It was one of many items meant to commemorate (and make a buck off of) the moon landing. It's sort of a five-minute history of the space program.

It's sure hard to believe it has been 50 years!

Ennio Morricone & His Orchestra - The Very Best Of Ennio Morricone from fab71

Wonderful Italian composer who has worked in cinema for many years.

I have a Ennio Morricone Greatest Hits album in my collection and I had to laugh when I saw what JRiver came up with for lyrics to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly which is actually  an instrumental:

Tra la la tra la la la
Tra la la tra la la la
Tra la la tra la la la
Tra la la tra la la la
One banana two banana three banana four
All bananas make a split so do many more
Over hill and highway the banana buggies go
Come along to bring you the banana splits show
Four banana three banana two banana one
All bananas playing in the bright warm sun
Flipping like a pancake popping like a cork
Fleagle bingo drooper and snork
Making up a mess of fun
Making up…

Making up a mess of fun
Making up a mess of fun
Making up a mess of fun
Lots of fun for everyone
Four banana three banana two banana one
All bananas playing in the bright warm sun
Flipping like a pancake popping like a cork
Fleagle bingo drooper and snork

Source: LyricFind

After which I decided to turn off lyric lookups.

Jim, quick question. Why isn't it possible to upload a track or an album? Why does it has to be a playlist?

We're using the compulsary streaming license for radio.  It requires a mix of tracks, not single albums or tracks.

WABC Musicradio Top 100 of 1968 by Noise From Apt 2A

I listened to WABC (New York City) a lot from 1963 to 1967.  It was great.  Cousin Brucie.

I listened to WABC also, starting a couple three years earlier than you.  In addition to Cousin Brucie who did evenings, there was Dan Ingrahm in the afternoons and Herb Oscar Anderson in the mornings (shared with the Breakfast Club from 10am to 11am).

In the early 1960's WABC also simulcast on WABC-FM (95.5) until 6pm when WABC-FM switched to classical music for the rest of the evening.

Not many people had FM radios in the early 1960's.  The FCC had to make a rule that all new radios sold were AM/FM in order to get FM radios sold.  Once that happened, FM radio opened up, with [mostly progressive] rock replacing classical.

As per last post, any panel speaker users should check out the Acoustic playlist. It should really show them off.

Muscle Shoals was a recording studio in Alabama.  Think Motown, but not Detroit.

Thanks Jim.

I put the playlist together after hearing the news that Roger Hawkins died this week.  He was the drummer for the Swampers (Muscle Shoals studio musicians).  They were mentioned in the Lynyrd Skynyrd song Sweet Home Alabama:

Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
And they've been known to pick a song or two
Lord they give me oh so much
They pick me up when I'm feeling blue
Now how about you?

There is a great documentary on the Muscle Shoals studio available here: https://youtu.be/hKmGUIM1uAI

Highly recommended.

Shocking Blue by racruzg
I'd never heard of Shocking Blue, but when I began to play this playlist, I thought "this is old music".  Meaning something I might have heard in my 20's or 30's.  Turns out it was a Dutch band that lasted from 1967 to 1974, exactly the period I spent in the San Francisco Bay Area after college.

It's hard to say why exactly it struck me that way.  It's rock, but not too loud, not too fast.  Great singer.  Great guitar.  I think of other artists like Janis Joplin and Grace Slick, but Shocking Blue had their own clear style.

And they were Dutch!

Thanks, racruzg!

Larry

Is this the movie to which you refer?

https://www.pbs.org/independentlens/documentaries/muscle-shoals/
Muscle Shoals, Alabama is the unlikely breeding ground for some of America's most creative and defiant music, rock and soul.

Located on the banks of the Tennessee River, Muscle Shoals, Alabama is the unlikely breeding ground for some of the most creative and defiant music in American history.

Under the spiritual influence of the “Singing River” as Native Americans called it, the music of Muscle Shoals is some of the most important and resonant of all time. “I’ll Take You There,” “Brown Sugar,” “When a Man Loves a Woman,” “I Never Loved a Man the Way That I Loved You,” “Mustang Sally,” “Tell Mama,” “Kodachrome,” and “Freebird” are just a few of the tens of thousands of tracks created there.

At its heart is Rick Hall, who founded FAME Studios. A musician himself, who overcame crushing poverty and staggering tragedies, Hall brought black and white musicians together — including during times when the state’s governor wanted “segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever” — to create music that would last for generations while also giving birth to the unique Muscle Shoals sound, and the unheralded but crucial rhythm section, The Swampers.

While fending off a budding rivalry in the Muscle Shoals heyday with Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, which was formed by The Swampers and would find huge success of its own, Hall maintained confidence in his brand and in himself.

Freddy Camalier’s film brings in legendary artists including Aretha Franklin, Duane’s brother Gregg Allman, Bono, Clarence Carter, Jimmy Cliff, Mick Jagger, Alicia Keys, Keith Richards, Percy Sledge, Steve Winwood, and others, as well as archival interviews with the late Wilson Pickett and Etta James, all who bear witness to the magnetism and mystery of Muscle Shoals and why it remains a global influence today.

I'm not a big fan of drum solos, but this is pretty amazing.  It's not quite drum solos.  Rhythm might be a better description.
