Those are just thumbnails, not full sized art. MC uses thumbnails in lots of places. When a thumbnail doesn't exist you get the blue music symbol.

So, your thumbnail database may have become corrupted. Try selecting the affected, or all, files, right-clicking on one, then selecting Cover Art > Rebuild Thumbnail.

More likely just an update to a new version of MC. I have no idea why MC needs to rebuild the thumbnails sometimes on a version update, but it does.

Well, yes, if "music first" has just done a major version upgrade.

MC doesn't need to rebuild thumbnails for an update, only for a major version upgrade, because it doesn't carry the thumbnail database over from the previous major version.

If a minor version update causes this to happen, then it is usually thumbnail database corruption.

Try restoring a backup.  MC makes them automatically.  File > Library > ...

Thanks Jim.  The back up seems to have worked.  Since I am running an older version of JRiver (22.0.108)  should I upgrade to 25?  Will it give me better overall performance?
Thanks,
