MediaCenter 9.0.169 RELEASE available
« on: May 05, 2003, 07:58:46 am »

We're letting her go today.  169 has a minor fix for a web upload problem, but is otherwise the same as 168.

MEDIA CENTER RELEASE VERSION IS HERE:

www.mediajukebox.com/mediacenter

Thanks very much for all the help.  It's your "blood, sweat, and tears" as well as ours.

CDRW Data Buning still does not work properly in this build.  If this is not a show stopper then...

It has been mentioned in various threads but does not appear to have been fully resolved.  Worked fine on Wednesday whatever build I was using then using Artist/Album folder structure.  However I want to preserve my chronological album structure as I have in XP Explorer using the years.  Tried using HD Folder structure in MC.  First time got an invalid CDb field error.  Second time hung half way through burning 2nd track and did not do anything after that.  left for 5 minutes and decided it must have crashed

CD burning is working for most people now.  There are exceptions and there will always be exceptions.  Please use one of the CD burning threads to try to solve the problem.

I tried but was told the problem could not be replicated.  Sorry Jim.  I only posted here because it was working on Wednesday.  It is only i the last few days it has changed.  I never had any problems with my CDRW at all ever since like build 9.0.68.  It is only in the last few days I am seeing problems.  I wil try posting to a CD burn thread again and see if anything is resolved.

NoCodeUK,

You can try this:
1. Install the last working MC version (where CD-RW burns worked)
2. Grab/save the CDWriter.ocx file from that build (where MC is installed)
3. Install the latest version of MC
4. Replace the latest version of MC's CDWriter.ocx file with the one you saved
5. Test to see if that works for you

Hi,

Wow, when JimH posts a build it's a serious release one ! :)
Ok, now that it's on the tracks let's wish MC9 and JRiver a bright future.
Also I wish to send many, many thanks to the whole JRiver team for the fun in using & beta-testing a great software.
Jim, you've got some great folks at JRiver, a very "sympa" team as we say here, I guess they deserve some cold, nice, maybe fizzy and tasty drinks now.

Wow!  Where did that web site come from?  The Media Center 9 site is really, really good!  I will browse around it a bit more but first impression is tremendous.  Congrats on this release!  I'm rooting for you and I'm a big promoter!

I can't believe that a crash caused by simply changing the file info window from docked to floating is deemed acceptable.

I hope that the crash caused by changing the file info window from docked to floating will be fixed.

Feel free to speak to me directly, rather than using vague references.  Parade?  Sorry, I missed it.  Inconsiderate?  The bug I mention is one that isn't obscure, isn't buried, but rather is part and parcel of the most basic aspects of the interface.  In other words, it's very easy to come across, and more than a little bit annoying to have to constantly keep in mind as you work with the software.  So, you tell me who is being "inconsiderate".

Quite the contrary, I thought that I was being considerate by reporting the bug, in detail (and having it confirmed by others), rather than leaving it for new customers to find.  How do you feel about software you are testing for the first time if it crashes on you when you merely change a simple aspect of the window?

This question deserves a new thread.  How can one express dis-satisfaction without insult?

When you said this:

"I can't believe that a crash caused by simply changing the file info window from docked to floating is deemed acceptable."

you could have said:

"I hope that the crash caused by changing the file info window from docked to floating will be fixed."

Less is more sometimes.

Great looking website. I haven't seen it before.

Not a bug but a somewhat annoying mystery:

This shows up whenever I close MC9. It has for many builds.

Weird, huh?

Obscure, at least.

If you start and stop without doing anything, do you still get it?

Plug-ins installed?

Visualizations?

Anything unusual?

Sorry to give you bad news at this time....

BUG new in version 168.  If I select a file from Media Library, it plays just fine as before.

If I select the same file (I DID check the filename!) through a SmartList it is so quiet that I cannot hear anything without turning the volume to maximum (from about 20%).

I havenot checked all my files, that would take too long, but I know that it happens on both old MP3s (recorded way back) and on newly recorded MP3s and new OGGs.

The files all have had 'Analyze Audio' run on them

Sounds like Replay Gain with "Automatic Based on Current Playlist" selected.  Let us know if that's it.

Thanks for reporting it.  We spent a few hours on it the other day, but could only reproduce it in very rare cases. (so couldn't debug it)

Bug:
1. The Library tools Rename From File Properties and Fill Properties From Filename are not consistant in their implementation of database library field names (for rule's templates).  Rename... uses the library field's Display value and Fill... uses the library field's Name value (internal).  So, if you rename Track # to T# (in Tree & View Settings), for Rename... you have to use '[Artist] - [Album] - [T#] - [Name]' and for Fill... you have to use '[Artist] - [Album] - [Track #] - [Name]' (in the Filename rule).  Ideally, MC should be consistant...I wanted/pushed for the way Fill... works (ie, library field Display value changes don't affect rule's templates), but lost that battle (haha)...now, MC is split-brain (it appears).

Hazzah!, Many thanks go to all who created, brainstormed, tested and sometimes screwed up their files :P for the release of MC9, it's truly awesome. ;D

To whoeveryouare, after reading your many posts about this bug I tested it myself this AM, and yes, I found it to happen often after closing MC, then reopening MC and hitting "float", although I would rarely find myself in that cirmcumstance in regular use (if ever). As for it being a showstopper, well, I can say this: I could write a couple of pages on ways I can get WMP to crash repeatedly, all day long!

Someone from J River should add an entry for MC on the Software Audio Players page at the Audio Coding WIKI. Just click on the 'Edit this document' link at the bottom of the page.

Well, it happens to me all the time (or it would, if I didn't force myself to work around it), because that's the way I work with the interface.  I switch the file info area between docked and windowed mode.  This problem, and your response to it, is analogous to a car with a broken passenger-side door lock; the fact that you don't run into the problem doesn't mean it's obscure or unimportant, it just means you don't have passengers very often (if ever).

At least with doof--and now you--easily reproducing the issue, the problem cannot be written off as impossible to reproduce.

WMP has never crashed on me.  But that's beside the point.  I would hope that JRiver aims higher than Microsoft where quality is concerned.

True, I have few friends :-/...I never said unimportant or obscure, I just commented that I had never encountered it b4 because it was a chain of action I would rarley enter into, but I made no comment on it's validity to others.

#1, if that's true, then what's the secret, cause I find it extremely buggy.

#2, I think they have already many times over.

I think the point here is to understand that, yes, things have bugs, even weird ones. And in my following of the betas, many, many, many bugs were found, reported and fixed...many of the ones you reported yourself. I guess they just missed that one, or apparently they couldn't find it. So with all you posess today, is the glass 99% full, or 1% empty?

The "secret" is to use WMP only for very basic uses (i.e. movie playback)!   ;)

I agree with you.  Indeed they did fix all the other bugs I reported (and I appreciate it).  I am sure they'll correct this last one, when the time comes.
