MC TheaterView becomes very sluggish
« on: December 26, 2019, 04:26:31 am »

I recently moved from MC25 to MC26 on my main HTPC. I am finding that after a couple of days uptime, it becomes really sluggish in TheaterView; so much that I have to reboot it. I suppose there is either a thread or memory leak, or possibly it is getting stuck on analysing audio, or building thumbnails; but have no further clues. So my question is what kind of logging do I need to run, to find out what’s going wrong?

Have seen this in 25 over the past year, albeit quite rarely...

When it happens, hit escape a couple of times to get out of Theater View.  Is MC still sluggish?

A disk spun down might explain it.

We're working on some internal problems that could also affect it.

There is a Logging topic on the wiki.

Windows Task Manager reports the following..

A) MC in normal windowed mode: CPU=0.2%, GPU=0%
B) MC IN TheaterView: CPU=7%, GPU=58% !!

And in TheaterView case B) it is not even doing anything. Not playing anything. Just statically looking at the Albums Browse screen, not touching the mouse or keyboard. So it certainly seems very odd that the GPU is so loaded even when nothing on the screen has to be re-rendered.

Thats not how 3D rendering works, the entire scene is always re-rendered.

Ok. So in my case, would having the GPU at 58% be a cause of making my MC navigation sluggish?

Note: by “sluggish” I mean that when I (say) press the Down button on the remote, it takes 3-5 seconds for the TheaterView screen to soft-scroll down to the next line of albums in the browse screen..

PS, it is not that. I am using internal SSD’s for everything.

Does it just animate very slowly, or take time before it starts the Animation?

It animates very slowly. (And if one presses the button repeatedly, it gets very confused..)
