RIP Options: track no / file name, album artist
« on: December 26, 2019, 01:33:22 pm »

Hallo and Compliments of the Season. Hope you're all having festive fun.

I'm setting up a new PC for JRiver MC 26 to be the main media server (well, old PC but with new 2TB SSD). On my previous system, I used Easy Audio Copy (aka EAC) to rip to FLAC. On the new setup, I'm looking at using JRiver instead. Ideally, I'd prefer the saved files to have similar format to the large store I have of ones done by EAC. I have looked at the wiki and the Options in JRiver and can't find the following:
  • Track no in the filename. EAC does  XX track name, MC26 does Artist - track name. Can I set the filename to start XX instead of Artist in MC26?
  • Tag for Album Artist is blank in MC26 but populated in EAC. I guess I can edit tag before starting the rip but can this be set as an automatic population?
I have no issue installing EAC on the new PC but if MC26 will do this, why bother? Save electrons!
Cheers, Mike

You can insert track numbers when you rip.  Take a look at the options.
It's under File Location/Encoding in MC Options.

You can use Album Artist (Auto) to populate that tag.

Thanks JimH. The Filename rule does the trick in Audio (CD rips and podcasts) in File Location as you say. [Track#] [Name] as Custom rule works.

However, not sure I understand the working of https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Album_Artist_and_Album_Artist_(Auto) The rule populates the Album Artist (in Advanced) but this doesn't appear to actually write the Album Artist in Tag - at least not where MP3Tag can read it. Is this a bug or have I misunderstood the function?
