IdPi Crashing Screens 4 VNC Mac
« on: May 18, 2020, 12:45:33 pm »

I set my IdPi up yesterday and was surprised to discover how easily my VNC program found it and allowed me to use it in headless mode. I use an app called 'Screens 4' on my Mac. I connected and disconnected numerous times as I worked on my setup until sometime in the evening when my VNC viewer stopped connecting to the IdPi. The viewer just crashes when I try to connect to it.

I am still able to connect to my headless Mac mini without a problem. I have restarted everything, I have reinstalled the VNC app. I have gone back and forth with the VNC app support staff. It's a mystery. Does anyone have any idea what to try?

I have attached a monitor to the IdPi, and it seems to be working fine. It shows up in MC26 on my Mac mini server, so it seems to be working otherwise.

It sounds like there might be something about the VNC viewer program. Do you have another VNC viewer you can try as a test?

I will try another VNC when I have time to get one set up. In the meantime, I am having trouble understanding why it worked numerous times and then just stopped connecting. Seems odd.

No updates were applied. I received the IdPi yesterday, set it up, connected numerous times successfully using the Screens 4 VNC, and then after about four hours of successful connections the IdPi started crashing the viewer. All of this played out over a few hours.

The Id can't crash the viewer.  It's doing that itself.  You could search for another version.

Well, that was easy. I quickly learned I can use my Mac's built in screen sharing utility...

Finder > Go > Connect to Server > vnc:<IdPi's address on the network)

Works like a charm.

Thank you!

I just found that as well. It seems to work pretty well. Once it's running you should be able to get it to stick in the dock and just click on it to use it in the future.
