Server stalls out re-authenticating with Last.fm
« on: June 20, 2020, 04:11:15 pm »

When streaming via my phone, or playing to any DLNA endpoint in my network the server will stall out and not play music - when I get to the server running MC I find at least one browser window open where MC was prompting me to allow MC access to Last.fm.

Is there a patch to this? I suppose I could stop scrobbling - but it's worked for years... until now. And I kind of like having the stats on Last.fm

Check your login credentials in MC settings.

What version of MC are you using?

23.0.104 (64bit)
Checking my account settings in MC just kicks off the same browser window to authenticate with Last.fm as it does when it stalls out.

It works fine for a while and then seems to just ‘forget’ that I’ve already allowed MC access to my Last.fm account.

Whatever the case - I’d rather it not become an actionable dependency for listening  to music.

You might need to delete the connection to your last.fm account in MC23's settings, then completely close MC23. From there go to last.fm's website and login, go to Settings > Applications and revoke/disconnect JRiver's application access. Then reopen MC23 and go through the process again of adding your last.fm account and see if it sticks this time.

It's worth noting that last.fm support in older MC versions like MC23 could be (and likely will be at some point) broken in the future when last.fm makes changes to their service/API/etc.

Thanks both Jim & Donkey - I had not realized I was so far out of date. I just updated... We'll see how that goes!

You might still see the auth window on occassion when you get home, but the server won't stall. It backs up the submissions and submits them all once the auth is sorted. I don't know why this started happening, it's a recent thing, probably a last.fm thing.

By the time you get home, the token will have expired. Clicking OK in the MC prompt spawns a new one you can work with.
