JRemote (iOS) 3.33
« on: June 30, 2020, 05:07:53 pm »

JRemote (iOS) 3.33 has been released.

Changes in this build:

  • Fixed crash caused by getting zones from the server when app follows server was enabled.
  • Added device non-transcoded Wavpack playback.
  • Added device non-transcoded Musepack playback.
  • Fixed save of settings.
  • Fixed stale playlist information in Playing Now when we aren't the controller.
  • Added DSD sample rates to the Playing Now display.
  • Fixed crash in app follows server zone mode when there is an out of range index caused by hidden zones.
  • Fixed crash on initial connection to a server with an empty server database.
  • Radio Paradise and Radio JRiver will be played to the currently selected zone, including remote zones (except for the device zone).
  • Radio JRiver TryMe channel added.
  • Visible selection of the streaming channel selected.
  • When adding server by IP address, fixed the Port field name.

Issues still to be addressed:
  • Themes and dark mode don't always play together nice.
  • Initial display of the scroll area should be top justified and appears to be centered. (Change in iOS 11)
  • Quick jump on lists when article sorting is enabled.
  • Rotation of the playing now screen on 4.7" iPhones (where rotation is supposed to be disabled).

Note: Since the database has changed, if you get crashes with version 3.33, remove JRemote from your device and re-install and re-enter your server(s) to get a fresh database.

Do you think playback on the device zone will ever happen in the future?

Bob, I thank you for this update to this wonderful app. and hope to see continued updating to what for me is one of the best parts of JRiverMC. The ability to stream JRiver Radio to the Device zone would be a welcome feature.

JRemote login failure
« Reply #11 on: July 24, 2020, 05:00:00 pm »

I haven't used JRemote for a while, but my attempts to fire it up this evening on my iPad have been a total failure. It just keeps timing out on the IP address for my HTPC, which is running MC 26. Using my Access Key or the IP address give the same result. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling JRemote 3.33, but that made no difference.

The Windows 10 firewall is configured to allow local network connections for MC 26 and when I open http://webplay.jriver.com/libraryserver/lookup?id=MYACCESSKEY it displays the same IP address as listed in the Windows 10 network settings (this is configured in my router as a fixed address).

I don't know what else to do to investigate this problem, so some guidance would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Problem now solved. I had taken for granted that Media Server was already running, as my normal practice has always been to start Media Server automatically when the HTPC is rebooted. However, for some unknown reason, this MC startup option had been turned off.

The category and album cover icons got quite large and I found no way to modify this...is there an option other than just display text?

Still have the issue with the Autoconnect and transcode switches following each other.
I thought it was fixed from 3.32 because when I reinstalled JRemote 3.33 the
Autoconnect switch was on and the Transcode switch was off.

But if I switch transcode off, quit the app and then reopen, both Transcode and Autoconnect
are off. From that point on the only way to get Autoconnect on and transcode off is to
reinstall JRemote and don't change either of those settings.

What device?
How many servers are there in your server list?
These switches are per-server.

Device is Iphone 7 ios 13.5.1 and I only have Media Center 26.0.103
on one windows 10 computer. Nothing has changed on my computer or
with Media Center other than updates to Media Center.
The other switches seem to work fine. Only the Autoconnect and Transcode
switches have an issue same as I had before.

The Access Key you entered may have a typo in it.

Your server's firewall may be blocking access.  MC or MC's Media Server must be running.

In Option, there is a test you can try.  Click on the Access Key.

As Jim said above.

I love JRemote and I use it constantly when I am away from home. The one thing I would really like to be able to do is to use smart lists to play classical compositions where the linked tracks of a composition play in sequence, even when scrambling the playlist. This is possible in MC but not in JRemote. Is there any way this could be implemented?
many thanks,
Hans

Have a music-lover friend who is not at all computer-literate and at 82, his eyesight is poor

He bought an iPad 4 years ago and the shop loaded JRemote on for him
Now an upgrade is required and a problem surfaced

The shop gave him an email address, the Apple ID and a password
This was written on the invoice, which is still available
However, the Apple ID and password do not work.  I have tried many many times
The shop closed their doors 3 months back so there is no-one to ask
Apple just say there is nothing they can do.  Have spent hours on the phone speaking to someone who can hardly speak English

The question is thus:

How can he purchase a fresh copy of JRemote?   There is no provision, apart from an upgrade, on the screen

Thank you

You could set up a brand new AppleID/Password and purchase JRemote under that AppleID.
However, did you try to reset the password of the existing AppleID? You also may have to set up 2-Factor Authentication for the AppleID.
Good luck!

testing video playback on jremote 3.34 beta on my ipad mini 2 running iOS 13.6

playback starts immediately.  source is a particle (mpls) and so far no issues - can pause/resume/ffwd/rewind without issue.  finally made it well past the 2 min mark (10 mins so far) which has not worked for anything other than mp4!   also noticed airplay support which i will try later today and report back.    will test with longer playback to ensure playback completes, but this is looking great!!  server is MC v27.

will also try other formats, e.g. mkv, mp4

overall jremote also seems much ‘snappier’’ as well.

Thanks Bob - new full-screen interface on iPhone looks much better

Testing video in 3.34 beta on my iPhone XS - at first seemed to work well, but stopped after 3 mins, and keeps doing it every time. Server is not overly loaded - basically, same as before in my old post. Seeking forward does not help, only video restart.
Separately - what is the 'high' video quality in JRemote? The video quality is very jittery/noisy especially in cartoons (Simpsons in my case). Is there any setting on the server side impacting this?

Are you using MC 27.0.11?  The changes on the remote side require the new server.

Thanks Jim - no, it was 27.0.10.

Updating to 27.0.11 resolved the video stopping issue. I also figured why the video quality was not great - this has something to do with the 'Use hardware decoding' option being 'on' on the server (Intel HD Graphics 620). Switching it off resolved the quality issue (although did increase the processor load).

I will keep testing - but it seems to work now!

v27.0.10 and JRemote 3.34 on iOS 13.6 played back video fine for me - played a half-hour video (from a particle).

Updated to v27.0.11 and will re-run test.  Will test airplay and other formats later.

edit:  playback with mc v27.0.11 works fine too

edit2: Airplay works!  was able to airplay from iPad mini to Apple TV 4K without issue.  also tried MKV and MP4 which all played back with no issues after several mins.

So far this is looking like a solid update.  will test other functions.

also - i simply installed over JRemote 3.33; i didn't have to do any other config - it just worked.

One minor quip - the splash screen when the app launches on the iPad in landscape mode is stretched.  don't care as it's a non-functional issue but thought you might want to know in any case.  not sure if you can provide a vector image that would scale depending on orientation or separate images for portrait or landscape.

thank you for your continued support of JRemote on iOS!

Thanks a LOT for the feedback and testing.

The splash screen is awful. It will be changed before a release. It's a new requirement from Apple for all new app uploads and it was difficult to implement given the development environment and JRemote's code base.

Yes, you should see a paperclip in the playing now for pdf and jpg's stored in the currently playing tracks folder.

I used to see the paperclip, but for a while now I have not seen it. I installed MC 27 in order to see if that made a difference but it does not. I am on JRemote version 3.33, and the simple test I am doing is to play tracks from an album which are all in the same directory as Cover.jpg (which is picked up as the cover art) and back.jpg which shows up in Extras in MC26 or MC27 but does not cause the paperclip to appear in JRemote 3.33.

Hi jriver forum members,

I have a question about jremote. I have an old setup (mc19 on old computer no longer functional) where jremote showed a "file" section under audio. Via that section i was able to browse my directory structure on my NAS. I like this because i have a lot of classical music cd ripped in one big wav file per cd and structured in dirs and sub dirs etc. So I am really relying on the directory structure for finding, selecting and playing music. I am in the proces of moving to a new setup (newer hardware and did not opt to migrate). In the new setup running mc26 i can get jremote to see my music but i cannot get the "file" section to show up under audio anymore. So navigating my music has become very difficult. How do i get the "file" section to show up again......

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to go into Tools->Options->Media Network->Advanced and customize views for JRemote, Gizmo and Panel and add a disk based view.

With JRemote 3.33 on iOS 14, I see no such issues in portrait or landscape on my iPad Pro 12.XX"

Not sure why you are seeing what you see.  Don't doubt you, but can't reproduce it either.

The only thing I can think would be that it’s because I’m on an 11” model. It’s odd because it goes top to bottom in vertical orientation, but when I rotate to horizontal it pinches in like you see in my screenshot. I’ve completely uninstalled and re-installed it. Running iPadOS 14.

I can't find out how to display video artist names in playlists in the same way as for audio files. Is there a workaround for this?

You could set up a brand new AppleID/Password and purchase JRemote under that AppleID.
However, did you try to reset the password of the existing AppleID? You also may have to set up 2-Factor Authentication for the AppleID.
Good luck!

Interesting. I have two AppleIDs on all of my devices. One for the store and ApplePay, the other for iCloud. They seem to coexist quite well but even that may not solve your problem.

If there is a vote for what next , the contrast issue of the dark mode is on my list.

In "normal" mode the white font has less contrast against the black background than it does in "Playing Now"

I would love to run Dark Mode but the current contrast makes it difficult to read.

I was pondering removing the themes and letting iOS determine that.
Thoughts??

It would be consistent that way , but wouldn't that entail setting the whole iPad to dark theme , I m not sure I would want that.

It just needs the 2 themes to be the same and preferably the Playing Now theme as that seems more White & Black the main theme looks Grey & White
