Lyrics Problem

Where is this so-called support? Lyrics search still doesn't work! I will definitely not invest in Version 27 if problems with 26 are not resolved! >:(

Hmmm....  Lyrics look up works for me, see attached screenshot.
EDIT: Removed screenshot in case I was inadvertently breaching Terms of Service by reproducing the lyrics on the forum.

Could you be more specific regarding the problem you are encountering?

Less SHOUTING would probably be appreciated as well....

If you've used it a lot previously when it did work for you, there's a chance you got yourself IP banned from the lyrics website. Try using something like a VPN and see if it starts working then, if it does very likely you got banned at some point.

So, now I have to apologize to JRiver, it was not your mistake but that goes on AZlyrics' cap they actually banned me and they wrote it to me in one letter

Hi Reinhard,

As you may be aware, providing lyrics requires licensing agreements with publishers.
AZLyrics is fully licensed, in other words, we pay for every lyrics view to them.
Because we are technically unable to sub-license lyrics, the usage of AZLyrics content
by any third-party lyrics provider is prohibited by these agreements.
It is clearly stated in every lyrics page source (just before the song lyrics) and it seems
JRiver deliberately ignores this.

We suggest you do not use their media player or at least turn off lyrics lookup feature to avoid
your ip address being automatically banned.

Thank you.

I don't think AZLyrics unbans people if asked, I'm not sure. If not, honestly the only way around it is using something like a VPN.

JRiver seems to be knowingly breaking AZLyrics terms of use. Seems like JRiver should remove them from its list of lyric sources.

Not knowingly.  But we will remove AZLyrics if they want us to.

In my experience the IP ban on AZLyrics appears only to be temporary (24 hours or so). I think the trick is not to select an entire library and attempt to lookup lyrics for the whole lot at once. I'm guessing the rapidity with which JRiver looks up the lyrics flags up with AZ as a DDoS or some such. I've been getting around the issue by selecting only 15 tracks or so at a time, performing a lookup and then doing another small batch a bit later. Not ideal but I'm not sure there is much else that can be done.

This has been a problem with AZlyrics since the day the lyrics lookup was launched.  It seems like you should follow the statements from AZlyrics and remove them from your lookup.

In the past AZlyrics has removed the ban on people's ip address. You need to email them from a separate ip address, which you can do with a phone not connected to your local LAN. Turn off WiFI on your phone and you should be OK. But, unless JRiver removes them from their source list, you will continue to get blocked if JRiver tries to access their site.

Check out this free program:  https://www.mediahuman.com/lyrics-finder/

I’ve been using it for several years and it works fantastic. It is kept up-to-date (May 2020 most recent), and a super simple interface. Just drag a track, an album, or your entire music collection onto the program and it begins searching numerous lyrics sites. Typically finds a full album of songs in about 10 seconds. You can also use the add track or add folder buttons under the title bar, but I personally find it easier just to drag files from MC directly onto Lyrics Finder.

After it has finished searching, be sure to click the tiny clipboard icon in the bottom status bar. This writes the lyrics to file tags. Until that point no changes are made. After that, be sure to run the update library from tags command (only for the files you found lyrics for).

If you already have lyrics for a given track, it will ignore it and simply show your current lyrics, so no potential for overwriting good lyrics with bad (though I recommend you test that with a few tracks first to make sure it behaves the same for you).

This could be if you tick the Lookup Lyrics in Autoimport Config

,MC rushes off and lookups the whole library and maybe overloads the search

Could it be possible to lookup only if the Lyrics Tag is Empty . Maybe with an optional override to refresh Lyrics if needs be

This actually makes the Autoimport setting useless

There are no such terms on the azlyrics.com site.  The statement that "it is clearly stated in every lyrics page source (just before the song lyrics)" is just false.

Observe:
https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/beatles/withalittlehelpfrommyfriends.html

I read through all the links accessible on their site. I find no prohibition against an individual user looking up lyrics using a tool like MC.

AZLyrics may well be banning IP addresses for what they consider excessive use or any other reason they choose, but I see no evidence they have any published policy on this subject.  Neither JRiver nor users are obliged to conform to "secret terms of use" held only in the mind of an AZlyrics adminstrator.  Undocumented terms are not terms.

Where are the terms and conditions of use, or the EULA, or any other documentation?

You can argue that AZlyrics is wrong, but they are probably not going to change their policy.  This is an old issue for them, well before JRiver started using the site.  I see references back to 2012 of people being banned from their site.

Have you done a download using their API? My understanding is that the statement "it is clearly stated in every lyrics page source (just before the song lyrics)" refers to the api download. Online software that uses the API is set to recognize that warning and uses it to determine where the lyrics actually begin.  Text is " Usage of azlyrics.com content by any third-party lyrics provider is prohibited by our licensing agreement. Sorry about that. --"

I'm not arguing that AZ is wrong.

I'm stating they have no policy.  There is no such policy on their website. A quora post is meaningless.

That comment in their html is inapplicable.  JRiver is not a 3rd party lyrics provider. They do not redistribute lyrics.

MC26.exe is a program, just like firefox.exe.  Both programs download lyrics to a single user's computer and do not redistribute them or send them any further.

If someone is going to claim that AZ has a policy prohibiting access of their website by a single user through any program other than an AZ-approved web brower, then show the documentation.

Where's the policy?  Let's see it.

In my opinion, regardless if they state a policy or not, the fact is AZLyrics has been IP banning JRiver Media Center users who use the lyrics download feature, especially if they're looking up lyrics to a lot of songs at the same time. They've also responded to users who have emailed them about it stating that they risk being IP banned from using the feature in JRiver Media Center.

So it makes sense to completely remove AZLyrics as a source.

Don't remove entirely a lyrics source in response to a policy that doesn't exist.

Put AZ back as a source in MC.

Reducing the number of lookups arguably makes sense to reduce server load. Removing AZ entirely makes no sense.

The point is that JRiver apparently removed a lyrics source in response to this thread, which is hearsay and nonsense, instead of relying on facts.

If there is no policy, why was anyone arguing changes needed to be made in the first place?

If someone got his IP banned for excessive lookups, he should do fewer lookups.  Everyone else shouldn't lose a lyrics source.

It makes sense to limit lookups to AZ if they ban for excessive use, not to remove them entirely.

Then why change the program at all? Lots of people have been using MC's lyrics lookup for a long time without getting banned by AZ.  Like me.

Temporary bans for excessive use happen with lots of sites.  Even Google makes you re-do the I-am-not-a-robot bs if they see you do too many searches.  It's easy to put a limiter on it.  But why install a limiter AND remove the site?  That's overkill on one problem, and needlessly hamstrings other sites.

You seem to think that "don't use it excessively" means "don't use it at all".

JRiver seems to be knowingly breaking AZLyrics terms of use. Seems like JRiver should remove them from its list of lyric sources.

You're the one who made this claim.  What terms of use?  You suggested AZ should be removed based on this so-called "breaking".  Is there anything substantive to back up this allegation?

You wish to ignore the communications from AZlyrics. I believe it should be honored.

You are lucky you have not been banned. I was. And, it seems like it is not a short temporary ban. It took a lot to get unbanned.   I do not like getting banned from sites.  Who knows if they will share that information with other sites.  Many people have been banned without even knowing about the issue.  And I bet there are lot of of people who have been banned and do know that they were banned.  That just does not seem like the best way for an application to operate, especially when AZlyrics has said that JRiver should not use their site in the way it is being used.

Way back when, I suggested that users should be able to select the sites they want to use. That was never implemented.

I was surprised by the limit to 10 tracks. It makes it tiresome to pre-load lyrics for a lot of albums.  But they load when you play a track, which is OK unless you are a believer in reducing network and disk activity during playback. But, it only happens once for each track.

I was surprised by the limit to 10 tracks.
Don't know the rules of the lyrics sites but maybe better solution would have been increasing wait time per request so the connections to sites would be less frequent.
I assume that sites are more concerned about how quick you bombard the site than the actual amount of connection requests
