Android TV
« on: August 13, 2020, 03:19:14 am »

Greetings all!
This is an old request. It seems to have
been left out of the discussion.
Any hope of adding android tv gui capability ?
I am aware of MO4media.
Thanks.

No.  JRiver for Android is our Android TV remote solution.
I have not been able to get JRiver for Android to load my library.
I tried several releases, to load on my Bravia tvs, with no success.
I reported my inability several times.
On the mobile  side of things, my library loads up with no issues.
If not for Mo4media, I would have found myself in the middle of a creek, without a paddle.
It says load the library and confirm, but nothing happens.
Any forum members that have success in loading their library ?, please respond.

For testing purposes, that part of the code that loads on Android tv, edit and add ti  JRemote2 then test if JRemote2 will install on these Bravia tvs.
It will be nice to see JRemote2  loads up on Android tvs.
Thanks.

What version?

Where is the library?

Version 0.106 either on the 2017 Sony Bravia or 2019 Sony Bravia -- 950g family.
I also have JRemote2 for Android installed on Nvidia Shield  Pro (2019), and pre 2019 versions. All with 0.106 JRemote for Android and Mo4media side by side.
I get to the point of server being detected, asks for credential and confirming the loading of library.  But nothing gets loaded.
I have not made any attempt to connect the Shield PRO directly to the Server.
The server is Ubuntu 20.04 64 bit. All testing is via DLNA.
Server has 128 gig of memory, a pair of RTX 2080 TI, and internal hard drives storing 2400 mkv files.
You would think Flacs will load, but no luck loading Flacs either.

In the vein of this discussion, I want to let you know that I just re-ripped my Dolby Vision titles (140) or more with Makemkv version 1.15.2, hoping MC via JRiver for Android or Mo4media -with VLC for Andoid  tv will let me play DV .

The NShield PROI is currently being fixed for BT2020 red push color issue.

I will be looking at Zidoo Z10 Pro, with Sata port to be released September. I plan on connecting directly to the ubuntu server using the built in Sata port.
Though I am not out of the woods yet, my health is improving day by day, this will give me strength to get more testing done . (Knock on Wood)

I really WANT to have an alternative to Mo4media. I think Jremore2 will be able to do the job of being installed on the Android tvs.

Thanks.

Can you double check that it loaded the correct library? There is a known issue right now where sometimes it will load the wrong library the first time.

Can you check anyway? When you go to load a library, the currently loaded library will have an icon in front of it indicating it's loaded. If you don't see an icon in front of the library server, it's not loaded. Sometimes what ends up happening is it will load a renderer instead of the library server.

Severname. goliathlinux
then my credentials
then message loading library.
the library will continue to load for hours.
I have been trying to get this to complete for more than 8 months.
If library does not load, it will not have an icon.
I have MO4media installed on all six or seven Sony Bravia tvs, no issues detecting and loading same library.
On the Sony xperia 1 cell phone, I have Gizmo,   EOS, JRemote, JRemote2,and MO4media detecting and loading same library.
Conclussion... if library does not load, or failed to load ,you will not get an icon.
Thanks.

Greetings:
26.0.108:
Updated, no luck. I still get "views empty."
I also updated the JRiver for Android on my cell phone, Library loaded in less than 10 seconds.
Almost one year of testing on the Bravia tvs, with no luck. I will be removing this app from my tvs.
I hope MC management will update  JRemote2 to have android tv gui.

Thanks.

You're running on a Sony TV.  I hadn't noticed that.  I  think the Nvidia Shield is what most people  are using.  We haven't tested on a Sony TV.   I'm sorry for the trouble.

Sir:
Regardless of the device, Sony Bravia or Nvidia Shield 2019 or previous models, still same result.

sorry to add this:

DLNA connection. I noticefd connecting via Bravia is a hit and  miss.
At times, it takes 5 to 20 tries before connecting.
It was not like this before.
The server is the nrw Ubuntu server.

Thanks.

So you're using a Shield to connect to another computer?

Did you set that up in JRiver for Android?

Try a few files on the Shield.  You have to import them.  That will work.

Yes, via dlna. Two shields ,each on different Bravia.

Try a few files on the Shield.  You have to import them.  That will work.
This is what I get on import:
"import files from /storage/emulation/0 ?"
But on the Sony cell xperia 1, it loads up the library with succesful connection.
On the Bravia tvs, it detects the only server and asks me to input log in credential.
After this point, "loading library is displayed", but then I get "empty view"
Thanks.

Yes, via dlna. Two shields ,each on different Bravia.
So the Bravia isn't running Android TV.  The Shield is and you're trying to connect to it with DLNA?  Don't try that.

Just connect the Shield to the Bravia with HDMI.

On the Shield, in JRiver for Android, try importing a few files that are located on the Shield, or try using it as a Renderer, playing from MC on a PC.

After it showed "Loading Library," did it finish? If it finished it should have gone back to the main menu on its own.

If you go back to the Load Library menu on the Bravia TV, does it show the loaded icon (blue book icon) in front of the library you wanted it to load?

library loading had never finished.

It's not loading the library then. It's getting stuck in the process. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app?

You mentioned that the library load on phone. Are you referring to JRiver for Android or a different app on the phone?

If you go to About in JRiver for Android on the Shield, what is the full version? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?

Hello:
I did Dbase coding for a living, then networking, and later testing for Kodak and Xerox.
Yes, regardless of where the install is I will uninstall and reinstall, then go to "a bout" screen if the version is recent or updated or not.
version 26.0.108 , 64 bit on all my installs.
I am referring to JRiver for android on my Sony Xperia 1 phone .
On the phone and on the Bravia tvs, I have Mo4media installed, no issue with loading the library.
On the cell phone again, I have EOS, Gizmo,JRemote2 installed, none have issues with the library.

Thanks.

Ekpen,
Please take a look at this:

That's for using JRiver for Android on an Nvidia Shield to load a library from a remote computer.  In my case it was a PC, but anything that's running Library Server would work.

The loading library goes in an endless loop.

I'm loading on a Sony Bravia TV as well Ekpen.

It works, but the navigation using an IR Remote is a bit tricky. It is explained in the thread Jim linked to.

Get it working, because I would like to know if Video and Audio play for you.

BTW, if you are connecting a Bravia TV running JRiver for Android to a MC Server, you aren't using DLNA as such. You are using a MC Client/Server setup.

You can pull to a Sony Bravia TV using the Sony Music or Video Apps, which are DLNA Renderers (and Controllers when used this way), or you can push to the TV acting as a DLNA Renderer using a MC Server, Client, or Remote acting as a DLNA Controller, which is also using DLNA and opens the Sony App required.

Hello:
I saw the link and I tried loading the library, with no luck.
For each Bravia tv powered on, the Ubuntu 20.04 server sees the connected tv.
Note that i have Mo4media installed on all Bravias in the house, and no issues connecting to the library either via Shield Pro or 2017 shield.
Even Mo4media also loads up directly on the tvs,  although faster on the shields.
I have no idea what is going on why JRrver for Android installed on Bravia tvs will not load the library.
This is getting old.
Thanks anyway.

As of today 08312020, I am able to load library either within Bravia tv or Nvidia shields.
I was able to press the back button on the Bravia remote and on the shield back button to take the loading library message out of the endless look.
The library contents do have playback issues though.
A PM has been sent to Brad.

Thanks to everyone.

Ekpen,

That's for using JRiver for Android on an Nvidia Shield to load a library from a remote computer.  In my case it was a PC, but anything that's running Library Server would work.

Updated to JRiver for Android 0.110.
Library loading is smoother now with no looping either on the Shields or Bravia tvs.
But there are still issues:
On every page, bleeding of background images on the screen which then makes the screen real messy.
I noticed when playing Flac, "Playing Now" has no meta data info. It is difficult for one  to figure out what track is currently playing. With this findings, I then installed my Free Gizmo back on the phone to look at the different between JRiver for Android and Gizmo.. Gizmo has this info laid out nicely, so is Mo4media, so is EOS, JRemote and JRemote2.

While browsing "Recent" audio or video info arrange horizontally, with no cover arts . Can you fix this please ?

While playing Video, 1080P video stops at about 1.58 seconds.
For uhd movies, about 50 seconds.

This concludes that JRiver for Android tv can not play video, same premise for JRiver Panel.

In the vein of this discussion, I am going to ask if JRiver Inc has plans to have a comprehensive media player built in similar to vlc and or Exoplayer?

Also another question relating to playback of all remotes and Media center itself- How will JRiver deal with Dolby Vision playback within the mkv container?

Thanks.

Try a few files on the Shield.  You have to import them.  That will work.
Hello:
I noticed this behavior on version 26.0.110.
audio cover arts are upside down.
on upgrading to 26.0.111 on the tv, audio cover arts are still upside down
Also this 26.0.111 has difficulty detecting the server.
video not still playing, both 1080P and uhd titles.
Again, images are bleeding on every page.
A search icon will be fine at the top of the video and audio page.
Audio playback on the tv or Shield still do not show the meta data, making it very difficult to know what track is currently playing.

On the cell phone, same 26.0.111, flack files play with meta data, but again stop and go.
Nothing ,audio play to the end without manual intervention.

Thanks.
