Album Art and Booklets -JRiver for Mac
« on: August 28, 2020, 01:37:35 am »

Hello, All.

I know this topic pops up every now and again. (I was going to write on the previous thread but got a warning that the thread was too old - in red.)

I would look to browse my nicely scanned booklets and gatefold covers - you know, Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, etc. - while listening, which was one of the joys of an LP (as long as you didn't get greasy, acid finger prints all over the artwork.)

This thread: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,120356.msg832057.html#msg832057 speaks of this and talks about SideCars, View Other Art Tabs, multiple folders, etc. and other matters which I don't understand.

How do I set this function up so I can flip through my art folders, where do I need to have my art folders, and what should I name them so that JRiver can find them, etc.

I run JRiver for Mac 20, and just downloaded the Trial version JRiver for Mac27 and it is unused at the moment. (Last time I downloaded a new version, it didn't update libraries and I got lost trying to point Mac Twenty Something to the old Mac 20 folders so this didn't proceed any further.  I have the time and a fresh trial copy to try again.)

1. Does this new version have a "look at your album art function" - aah, Linda Ronstadt's Simple Dreams inner sleeve - exist? And does it exist in the Mac version?
2. What do I have to do to make it all work?

(It would be a massive task if I had tons of artwork, but in reality I only have some favourites I have mentioned above for examples, and the librettos of Wagner's Ring and a few other bits and pieces of the classic Great Albums, so I don't mind doing a bit of work.)

If described elsewhere please point me in that direction.

Best regards,
George

On a Mac, backup from your old program and restore in the new.  It's under the File Menu.

You've downloaded MC26 to try it.  If you purchase, you'll receive an MC27 license that will also work with MC27 when it is available this fall.

Additional art can be used by saving it in a directory named ____.  This feature was added in the last year.  I'll find the name for you.  Other Art?  Extras?

I'm also quite fond of all the booklets, many of which I've scanned and cleaned up with Photoshop myself.

So far the only way I've used them is a) The PDFs are located in the same folder as the music file [ISO, flac, whatever]. b) When selecting 1 or more tracks from the album right click and the lowest option on the list is "View Extras." In that I select the booklet, which opens via Mac's Preview. (For some reason the Cover Art files don't open, but the PDF booklets always do.)

I believe the folder must be named "Extras".

This has piqued my interest. How do you tell MC to save pdf's in the Extras folder?
many thanks,
Hans

I think you have to do it manually, but I'm not sure which file types it supports.  Try a jpg.

Thank-you for the assistance on this JimH!

I shall try out these features in the next few days.

Best regards
George.
