27.0.22 (10/9/2020)

0. NOTE: This is the (stock) Flipped screen rendering build.

27.0.21 (10/9/2020)

0. NOTE: This is the EXPERIMENTAL Native screen rendering build.
1. NEW: Hardware accelerated video decoding through VideoToolbox.
2. Changed: Audio Path will show "Bitstreaming" when audio is being bitstreamed instead of potentially confusing audio stream details (which identified the physical transport of the audio, not the audio contents).
3. Fixed: Setting the Last.fm option could not work if returning from options switched zones.
4. Changed: Adjusted logging for DLNA TV device discovery.
5. Changed: When building playlists for a handheld using relative paths, if nothing is in common, it will use dots in the path to start at the root then build the path (may make Android devices work better).
6. Changed: Updated Italian translation (thanks matteo e massimo).4. Optimized: EPG loading (including SiliconDust, MC2XML, XMLTV, and Perc Data modes) is significantly faster.
7. Optimized: Processing TV for EPG loading and the like runs less often.
8. Optimized: Standard Television view loads significantly faster, especially if the lists of channels and programs are large.
9. Fixed: Character offset on retina monitors.
10. NEW: Reporter (Help->System Info) will indicate if the native or flipped version of screen rendering is in use.

27.0.20 (10/5/2020)

1. NEW: Beta build with native screen drawing. Please report issues with this!
2. Changed: Enabled automatic retry in 30 to 60 minutes of SiliconDust EPG loading so that we would not miss a daily reloading due to not having discovered the DLNA tuners yet.
3. Fixed: When using SiliconDust EPG, all programs were classified as "new".  Now re-runs will be properly treated as re-runs.
5: NEW: Trackinfo templates implemented.
5. NEW: When the language for the system is Japanese, that will be the default translation used (instead of English).
6. NEW: Added a confirmation when exiting from "Load Program Guide..." window with "Automatically load the program guide every day in the background" option off.
7. NEW: (Experimental) MC allows "Beyonwiz V2" device to be treated as a DMS TV tuner.

27.0.18 (9/30/2020)

1. Changed: Added an information message box to inform the user after DLNA is enabled during SiliconDust EPG setup, that it is a good idea to restart MC before re-attempting EPG setup.
2. NEW: Trackinfo and 2D Visualizations implemented (intel only at this time).
3. Fixed: Spelling error.  On Load Program Guide window, the word "everyday" is changed to "every day".
4. Changed: The program no longer pauses a playing video when clicking to activate the program from another program.
5. NEW: When the language for the system is Japanese, that will be the default translation used (instead of English).
6. Changed: MC will show better error message when it fails to download EPG data, especially from SiliconDust.
7. NEW: Added the web service function File/GetPlaylists to get a list of playlists for a given file.
8. Changed: Respond to a Playlist/Build call with the new playlist ID.
9. Changed: The genre, artist, album, composer, track #, and name are read from the iTunes database during import (so files don't need to be tagged for those fields).
10. Changed: MC will parse <episode-num> element with system="onscreen" attribute in XMLTV files more smartly so it will pick up season number and episode number, in particular from SiliconDust EPG.
11. Changed: MC will reload TV channel logos during EPG loading (if EPG data file contains the logo images) if previous image file is missing.
12. NEW: During SiliconDust EPG setup MC will detect whether DLNA is enabled.  If not, MC will offer to display Media Network options page.
13. Changed: TheMovieDB TV Show lookup populates the IMDB Id with the episode id.
14. Fixed: Subtitle lookup for TV shows was not finding any results.
15. NEW: Added the playlist format "M3U (relative paths, forward slashes)" to handheld upload.
16. Changed: Increased the pause on click timer to hopefully avoid fighting with double-click.
17. Changed: Slovak translation updated (thanks Peter Lukac).
18. Fixed: Importing MP4 video files with Playback set to "External" could result in some information missing.
19. Fixed: MP4 video files will more reliably use the video engine to fill in missing metadata.
20. Fixed: SiliconDust EPG re-loading could randomly be skipped.
21. NEW: Links to websites (that start with http:// or https://) in list controls will be active links now.
22. Changed: Lists will set the cursor in some cases like hoovering over the rating or a link.
23. Changed: On the "Schedule Guide Reloading" window, the "Next Load" column will include a date, instead of just time.
24. Fixed: SiliconDust EPG repeat loading time could be wrong.
25. Fixed: WAV files with a zero sample rate could crash (now they are rejected).
26. NEW: TV EPG loading modes will have their own start time settings so users can configure multiple modes to start at different time of the day.
27. Fixed: Background EPG loading threads could be unnecessarily created in rare cases even though no EPG loading mode was scheduled to start at the time.

27.0.15 (9/21/2020)

1. Changed: Video pause will fire the OSD when in full screen mode now.
2. Changed: MC will query HDHomeRun devices for the number of tuners, instead of using hard-coded values, for a more accurate count.
3. NEW: The text shown in Theater View's playing now can be customized in Options > Theater View > Advanced > Expression for Playing Now.
4. Changed: MC will classify a show as "movie" if the XMLTV puts it in a category of "Television movie" or "Cinema movie".
5. Changed: Left click won't pause when releasing a menu or double-clicking.
6. Fixed: Internal Volume was not enabled for DMS TV playback.

Happy to report that the weird line issues are gone. Scrolling is still jerky in the track list.

First impression: Clear CPU difference vs .20.  Playing the same album my CPU is hovering around 20-25% with .22.  I quit, reinstall .20, play the same album and it's 80-90% within 3 seconds.

EDIT: I typed .20, then changed it to .21 when I looked at the forum thread title, but it really was .20.  I didn't see .21 posted.  I'll try .21 as well.

EDIT2: After installing .21, same deal.  Press play, CPU jumped to the 90s.  Hit stop, CPU drops to <1%.

A few more observations about MC27 on double monitors.

  • Dragging the main window around on the screen is choppy (is that a word? it is like it makes little jumps/skips on the way to where I'm dragging it).
  • Sometimes when I drag to my Macbook Pro screen when it has been on my main screen it jumps out of range. The only solution to get control of it (as far as I can tell is to quit MC and restart it) See screenshot.
  • If I change the size of the screen real slow it often sticks and doesn't jump back to it's previous (or even another smaller size) but in many cases when I have to move MC out of the way and am not paying too much attention like I would with other apps it moves choppy and erratically resizes itself.

When you get that high CPU usage in .21 what are you viewing at the time? Playing Now, Display View, Theater View, etc?
Is the spectrum analyzer enabled? If so and you disable it, does anything change?

We are going to try to transition to the non-flipped version, this build is mostly for comparisons to the native screen version so we can find regressions.

Viewing Playing Now.

I had the show waveform enabled, and spectrum on both left and right.  When I disable those, stop and restart a track, the CPU is about 20%.

With show waveform, it settles around 24%.

With one spectrum analyzer on (Left) and waveform, it settles around 70%.  Same with waveform turned off (and spectrum on).

EDIT: If it matters, my System Information shows 100% audio analyzed.

Just checked non-retina mode in .022 and the double line issue is still there. Retina mode is back to normal. Scrolling is still jerky in both modes in the bottom pane (track list) in Pane View. Above, scrolling through artists, albums or any other, is smooth.

Hello. When Updating to JRiver 27 (from JRiver 26) I have noticed a new “Click” in my PS Audio PerfectWaveDAC. This happend everytime I Stop a Track, or at the Final Track. My DAC shows no Signal from the USB Input for a second, and then it starts to receive Signal again. It looks like this new JRiver 27 interrupts the connection with the DAC when the Music ends...  This is quite anoying and maybe is forcing the DAC without being necessary...  Can you please Help? Regards.

Did you compare the audio settings?  Also look at DSP Studio.  You can use Output Format to force everything to the same bitrate and sample rate.

In addition to what Jim said, maybe you look at and compare device settings (MC's Options > Audio > Device settings under Audio Device). Try turning integer mode off and on and see what happens.

In addition to what Jim said, maybe you look at and compare device settings (MC's Options > Audio > Device settings under Audio Device). Try turning integer mode off and on and see what happens.
Second this, that is the only change in audio between MC26 and MC27.

We can for sure work on tweaking menus, etc but first we need to get this native build to be at least as well behaved as the screen flipped build.

It's a bit confusing to me the back and forth in the 2 different release threads so I'm going to create a thread specifically on this topic and I'd like you all to state the comparisons like this for example:

Tooltips
---------
Font Helvetica Regular 12
Monitor Mode: Retina
Flipped: Ok
Native: Momentary upside down on underneath redraw.

Hello. Thank you for your reply. I have tried to change everything under these settings. Situation persists. Stop Button or last song interrupts the connection between JRiver and DAC (Pop sound). Some settings even interrupts connection hitting the Play Button... I believe it can be a Default configuration from JRiver 27 different from JRiver 23 and 26, the ones I know...

Did you compare the audio settings?  Also look at DSP Studio.  You can use Output Format to force everything to the same bitrate and sample rate.

Hello. Thank you for your help. I have DSP turned off By Default like in older JRiver 23 and 26. I have changed the Audio Settings and sometimes it gets eve worse interrupting the signal also when I hit the Play Button. Maybe some other default configuration installed by Default in JRiver 27. Regards.

Hello. Thanks for the help. I have turned Integer on and off and changed channels. Always the same Pops (Breaking signal at the end of the music). In past Versiona of J River 23 and 26 this never happened to me... Regards.

Use DSP Studio > Output Settings to set everything to the same bitrate and sample rate.  The pop is probably coming from the DAC when it tries to switch.

I have Music in different bitrates/sample rates. I am not interested in Upsampling. The Pop in my DAC shows a Red Light meaning the Signal from the Macmini is interrupted for 1 second. I can assure J River 27 is (by Default configuration) interrupting the Signal to some DACs. This did not hapened in J River 23 or JRiver 26. Maybe I will revert to J River 26...

I'm not seeing any difference between MC26 and MC27 with regards to USB external DAC's and track stopping.
Of course the data will be stopped when you stop.
If it's happening between tracks make sure your Audio settings with regards to track transitions is set to gapless. This only opens the device once when you hit play and plays silence when paused.

If you still have issues you might try changing the hardware buffering in MC's audio device settgins.

No bug but a big HALLELUJA!
27.0.22. is the first version that writes AND READS special characters correctly from my Mac and tagged with Metadatics! Gave up hope that this would happen one day.
And for me the CPU and all other tasks work normal and reliable.

THANKS

Please try it.

Hello. When I enable DSP Studio and change the Output Format to the same Output, the Click Sound and Red Light (meaning Interrupted Signal) still appears everytime I Click Stop Button and also starts to appear everytime I hit the Play Button. Turning Integer mode On is the same. So the best configuration so far, is Leaving DSP output format our and turning integer mode off. This way it only interrupts with Stop Button.

It is not the Track that Stops but the signal between the JRiver and the DAC that is interrupted everytime I hit Stop Button. This never happened to me in the Past versions.
The issue happens when I press the stop button. Inhave tried everything possible for 4 hours now... This never happened in previous versions 23 and 26.  Thank you.

Could it possibly be some recent change in macOS audio handling?  Maybe that is what they are hoping you will uncover by reverting back to MC26 and seeing if it persists.

Try disabling integer mode under device settings in MC27's Options > Audio.

Would you verify this please? I don't think anything specific was changed in that area.

Hello. Yes everything is set to “Gapless”. The only way not to have this signal unterrupted problem is to “Pause “ the Track instead of “Stop”  and then select another track/album to play... Very very strange... Thank you dor the support.

When tracks are playing continuously with Gapless transitions set, the device isn't ever closed.
When you hit the stop button, the device is closed.
I don't see how you'd get gaps between tracks.
You might try turning off the integer mode as suggested to see if that changes the behavior, if you device is supporting integer mode in 32 bit that would be the one change from MC26 to MC27 that might affect your setup.

I noticed a peculiar behavior when hovering the cursor above certain column in Pane View. For example, when hovering in the Artist column, sometimes the content of this field will pop up before the Tooltip pops up but sometimes not. Also, when it does, it sometimes overlaps with the Tooltip and sometimes not. Why does the content for the selected field not always pop up? And could it be made so that when it pops up it never overlaps with the Tooltip?
I made a video to illustrate: https://file.laohuhome.net/sharing/DXGEph8k4
many thanks,
Hans

Am I doing something wrong?   When I scroll through the drop down lists (see screen shot).....the scrolling is so fast as to be almost unusable.  Very frustrating.    Is this a Mac only problem?   Is it fixable?
