Fill Properties from Filename not working. Seems I get either only the first word in the [NAME] (which was my last field) or nothing is there with only a 1-word name.

- displaying TV is broken (used to work the last time I checked ~.135); Sound is ok, tuner seems to work, but picture is black on black :-( ; Hauppauge WinTV Stereo, PAL, Germany, btwincap drivers

- in hairstyle display options only shows an empty screen.

I like the new Hairstyle skin. Great work. Again.

Would you like to send us your drive? We've done this a few times and it has helped.

This offer is open to anyone else who might need it.

I have an ATI TV Wonder USB, and I can't get sound from it anymore. There used to be an option to select the audio device from the right-click menu, but the new "Devices" menu doesn't change anything.

Also, under TV options, the lower check box is always enabled and doesn't save the state if I change it.

BUG? MC takes 15-20 seconds to completely shut down and it looks like Remote Server is one of the last things to stop. If I restart MC before the 15-20 seconds, the new Remote Server collides with the old one and it doesn't start (get error dialogs). The first one eventually quits, so I have no Remote Server running.

BUG: MC is throwing away my playing now playlist when starting...

OK, I have Tools->Options->Startup Setings->Start playing current playlist enabled.

1) Right-click playlists->My Smartlists->Good Music and select Play (Loads 3000+ random songs into Playing Now and starts 'em playing)
2) Close MC (wait > 20 seconds...)
3) Hit the Play/Pause button on my Logitech keyboard to start MC
4) MC starts, but Playing Now now contains all of the tracks in my Media Library and it starts playing song #2017!

If I start MC using the icon, everything works as expected and it starts off where it left off on my smartlist...

Edit: Looks like the culprit is having Tools->Options->General->Play button set to Play Visible Files (all) and having Tools->Options->Startup Settings->Start In set to Media Libary. The Play button must start MC and then send a Play command...

So, it looks like the combination of General->Play button and Startup Settings->Start in override Startup Settings->Start Playing Current Playlist when starting via a keyboard's Play button.

Problems:

1. When I attempt to play any WMA file I get the following Error dialog: "Playback Engine: Media Jukebox is unable to acquire license for this file. Windows Media Error: 0x80070005." This error only occurs when trying to play these files from the server on another computer. In recent prior versions I got a different error code, but the same behavior.

Despite some theories that this is linked to DRM being activated in the WMA files, this does not appear to be the case for a number of reasons: (i) Media Center has no problem playing the files on any PC when they are loaded off the LAN, i.e. not streamed using the server; (ii) I have no problem playing them with Windows Media Player, Musicmatch Jukebox, Media Jukebox and even prior versions of the Media Center Server (e.g. prior to 9.0.130); and (iii) it is my strong recollection that when these files were ripped, DRM was turned off.

I believe this is a bug in how the Media Center client/server system handles playing WMA files.

2. Attempting to play many internet radio stations from Web Media (e.g. CNet Radio) does not work. It just produces a dialog box entitled “JRReader” that says “Failed to connect to server. Reason: not found.” With other stations a maximized window with play, FF & RW buttons will pop up, but nothing will play.

3. When attempting to play many internet radio stations from Web Media, inconsistently, I will also get the “Warning” dialog saying “Media Center encountered errors while trying to play the last several files. Make sure that the path in the Media Jukebox library points to the right location.”—even though only one unsuccessful attempt was made and the error message is inapplicable to Web Media.

4. Attempting to play internet radio stations that have been saved as library entries does not work from a remote PC. It pops up dialog asking for a username and password for the IP address of the PC acting as the server.

5. Double clicking on a photo thumbnail using a remote PC results in Media Center becoming non-responsive (for longer than 5 minutes) if there were a large number of thumbnails in the group containing the clicked-on photo.

6. Only the first 16 images are displayed from full screen mode. Is there a way to display more images or move to the next page? If so, it is not apparent from the FSUI itself.

7. No video shown when playing certain quicktime movies.

8. Playing certain quicktime movies crashed Media Center.

9. No thumbnails of quicktime movies shown.

10. Playing MPG video files does not result in any video playing.

11. Attempting to play a quicktime file using a remote PC brings up a dialog saying “Media Core has encountered a problem and needs to close.” Etc. and Media Center terminates.

12. Attempting to play an MPG video file using a remote PC brings up a dialog asking for user name and password for the server PC, after entering the Media Server ID and password, the file plays. The I get a dialog saying “Media Core has encountered a problem and needs to close.” Etc. and Media Center terminates.

13. No sound when watching TV using the TV tuner card (an ATI TV Wonder).

14. No way to connect a remote PC (i.e. one other than the one on which the server is running) to Media Server by referencing the name of the computer on the LAN, e.g. as \\COMPUTER:81 where “COMPUTER” is the name of the computer on the LAN and 81 is the port number the server has been set up to operate on. I believe this used to work, e.g. in Build 100.

Note: In all of the above instances involving the server PC and a client, the Server is set up to use a user ID and password and port 81.

Sticky Views are still not working properly for me:

For example, in my Artist/Album view scheme, it is impossible to make the sorting when clicked on an artist different than that for an album. I would like albums to be sorted by track (like in MJ8) and the rest of the time sorted by artist then title.

Maybe this is by design, I don't have a total understanding of how it's supposed to work, but as it is it's more annoying and less useful than the old way.

Super-Annoying Bugs (CD burning woes in last few builds):
1. Creating a data CD burn list of 100+ tracks takes MC about 40 secs of 'think time' before it displays the data CD burn list. This used to be almost instantaneous. It's like MC's CD burner is calculating MD5 signatures for every track you are adding...lots of CPU busy activity!!

Update:
Additionally, MC is unresponsive for those 40 seconds (Player window doesn't update, mouse clicks ignored, etc). Confirmed this happens on my desktop and laptop PCs. In fact, MC makes the whole system very unresponsive while it's wasting time building a data CD burn list.

Query:
What's changed lately (around build #145 I'd say...not certain though) in CD burning to cause such high CPU usage during a simple add/create data CD burn list?

... nice job on the new Hairstyle look

I've noticed a few TV related issues which should be addressed (1,5) and a few 'nice to have':

1. When watching live TV, there is a significant audio lag (seconds...). This lag disappears in the replay mode... (This has been an issue for a few builds, at least)

2. It would be great if, when starting in TV mode, MC would remember the last channel watched, rather than default to the first 'channel' (Which happens to be the s-video input on my system)

3. Moreover, one has push the TV button, be patient for a few seconds before the TV starts. It would be great to have some indication of what is going on in full screen/HS (The TV screen could say on startup 'Press Television to begin watching', and then 'Starting TV... please wait')

4. The order of the channels, for zapping, is fairly strange (order in which they were played?)... alphabetical, or by channel number would make more sense

5. At some times, the TV sound disappears (I never saw this until this build)

OK, here's the problem I've been having:

This is the info I got off YADB:
Name: I'm Accepted/Eli
Artist: Various Artists
Album: X: The Birthday Album Disc 1: Now

So, in the file properties window, I select "Eli". I press Ctrl+X. I try going up to artist and pressing Ctrl+V, and it's the thing that was on the Clipboard before, so the Ctrl+X didn't work. So, I go back and press Ctrl+C then backspace the "Eli" away. I then Ctrl+V and it pastes into the artist spot. But now, I select the Name field again to get rid of the stupid "/", but somehow the "Eli" magically reappears.

That certainly has to be a bug.

Thanks,

Dan "da Man"

Right clicking on a file in the mini-me playlist and choosing properties doesn't do anything...at least not for me.

Yes, I think this is by design. However, I agree with you in the fact that it is much more annoying and more of a hassle than the old way (alpha for artist and track for album was the best ever). I would GREATLY STRONGLY appreciate it and love the program ever so much more if the old method could be reimplemented. Thanks again!!

Minor bug (sorry Jim)...

Successful burns are not accompanied by a sound though one has been selected.

As mentioned, View schemes are too easily corruptable, as are smartlist criteria's. Need a way to lock these down, so temporary changes don't permanently affect the base sort/criteria (yes, the criteria was corruptable in MJ8, but not the base sort). How 'bout my lock/unlock idea?....OK...I'll go to my room.

Still Open:

No access composer and custom field in TrackInfo and Visualization
In trackInfo :
>TRACKINFO_INSERT_CUSTOM1
>TRACKINFO_INSERT_CUSTOM2
>TRACKINFO_INSERT_CUSTOM3
are not returning values.

In Visualization Studio the text field:
>CUSTOM_1
>CUSTOM_3
>CUSTOM_3
are not returning values.

Also:
I understand you made change regaring when the file is considered as "Played"
(once it was after 50% playing time now it is 100% playing)
Isn't it possible to make it customizable in the option menu and let the user choose if he want 50%, 80% or whatever ?

Hi guys,

A relatively minor bug: When using a delimited list field as a field in a media library group with a grouping level specified, the following happens:-

Let us say that I have a grouping of 1 and I have a file with the delimited field set to "Apple;Banana;Carrot".

Under each node A, B and C, I get the following:

- A
  - Apple
  - Banana
  - Carrot
- B
  - Apple
  - Banana
  - Carrot
- C
  - Apple
  - Banana
  - Carrot

In other words, if a file qualifies for one specific grouping, all the delimited values are shown, not just the qualifying ones. The above tree should be, of course

- A
  - Apple
- B
  - Banana
- C
  - Carrot

Hope you can fix it soon:)

Oh, another bug, while I remember:

A Playing Now "Skip" filter based on a smartlist does not get updated between tracks. This has been a problem in all of version 9. It last worked as expected in 8.

If I base a "Skip" on a smartlist with the following rule:

lastplayed=<120

I get the results that I would expect when I first apply the Skip. However, after a song is played, the list is not updated. I get songs that were played two hours prior to the Skip being implemented which is fine, but this list is not updated.

I would expect the behaviour to update so that if a song has been played, it cannot be played until two hours has elapsed. This is useful if I reshuffle the playlist or let other people mess around with the music. At least they won't hear the same music again and again.

Thanks muchly:)

I'm having problems with WMA format files ("The source filter for this file could not be loaded.", I recently installed WMP 9.00.00.2980. Is there something I can do to clear up this WMA issues?

I can duplicate this every time using "BBC radio 5 live" in the Web Media section of MC9.

BUG

Playback is sometimes going wierd and sending the sound to only one (left) speaker. Double clicking on the file to make it start again and play it fixes it.
Happens at random on a big list of songs - happened on v147 and this one (didn't try v148)

Bugs:
1. While playing tracks (same Playing Now playlist for 2 days), MC all of the sudden thought some of the tracks were missing...complained about too many playback errors and stopped playback. I tried to play the file(s) it errored out on and MC would not play them...as if they had been deleted from the harddrive or something. I restarted MC and they played fine after that...these were all imported files too.

Update:
The only thing I had done prior to this bug coming up was to test that the data CD burn list bug (reported above) still existed (just built a burn list of 119 tracks and cancelled it).

I have an ATI TV Wonder USB, and I can't get sound from it anymore. There used to be an option to select the audio device from the right-click menu, but the new "Devices" menu doesn't change anything.

For ATI TV Wonder USB, you need to make sure that "There is a physical audio connection from my TV tuner card to my sound card" is UNCHECKED on the Audio page of TV Options.

Quote

Also, under TV options, the lower check box is always enabled and doesn't save the state if I change it.

Which lower check box? "Enable Audio Mode Selection"?

1. When watching live TV, there is a significant audio lag (seconds...). This lag disappears in the replay mode... (This has been an issue for a few builds, at least)

Do you get synchronization problem in regular viewing mode or time-shifting mode?

Synchronization problem in time-shifting may be due to video compression taking up too much CPU power. In regular viewing there should not be any delay.

13. No sound when watching TV using the TV tuner card (an ATI TV Wonder).

Is this an USB device? If yes, make sure you UNCHECK "There is a physical audio connection from my TV tuner card to my sound card".

If it is a PCI device, make sure you have a cable connecting the TV card to the sound card's Line-In, and the above check box CHECKed, and appropriate devices selected in the drop-down boxes.

Seeing some bad crashes
« Reply #30 on: April 15, 2003, 07:01:17 am »

In the last few releases I have had two fatal issues come up every once and a while.

1) If I pause my music for a while (an hour or so) when I hit play again it just plays the next 0.2 secs of music over and over again, endless repeating it - MC is then locked up and has to be killed. I used to think this might be related to playing tracks from a smb share (b/c I have seen this is MJ v8), but all my music is on the local disk nowadays and I haven't seen this problem until the most recent builds of v9 came out.

2) occassionally the app will just die. I just installed 149 and it died after about a minute of playing a song. I made screenshots of all the error info I could.... let me know if I can send them to a list somewhere.

I am using a secondary monitor, which is where MC lives. I am now running it on my primary monitor just in case that is the cause for the trouble. I typically run in mini-mode with the visuals going. Also, I recently turned on the builtin web server in MC, not sure if that matters.

-- a quick update - it crashes equally readily on either monitor. Seems to die after every few songs now.

Yaobing, this is what has puzzled me. There is no delay when time-shifting is active (with the 320*240 codec)... but there is a big delay when it's not active (and also with higher resolutions and time-shifting, which I can understand as CPU usage is pegged at ~100%)

Try deleting this registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox\TV Settings
and start over.

If that does not help, try TV Options->Configure TV... and go to "Advanced Properties" page. Double click "Video Capture Filter..." and make sure the right Video Standard is selected.

Also check Display page and make sure the controls in the lower portion ("Video") have appropriate settings.

This is unchecked. I've tried both, actually, and neither works.

Yes. For me, this checkbox does nothing.

Please move the TV problems to a new thread. Most (if not all) are configuration issues.

If you don't know, you didn't change it :)
I think its windows\hosts.

To make sure I understand:
1) You are running Media Server, and at the time this happens, no clients are connecting to it.
2) Media Center is not running.
3) You click a link in IE, and Media Server pops up with the message.
Right?

Well, I can't replicate it now. I've tried various combinations of the above. :(

sorry.

Ok, I did find a BUG. I can bet that. It's been there for a long time. After you run find servers on MC-local pc (using Media Server), next time you run MC (local pc), it goes straight to find servers (remote pc), right?. Ok, but if you double click an mpc file (local pc) to play it, without opening MC, it will go to find servers (Media server or remote pc) and then MC will crash. This is playing mpc, I dont know about mp3. Thanks for your support. ;D
