27.0.39 (12/10/2020)

0. NOTE: This is the Native Screen rendering build.
1. Changed: When moving cover art to a new folder, a confirmation is shown before moving all the files.
2. NEW: The statusbar is updated from a thread so blocking to access a drive spinning up won't block the program.
3. Changed: Updated Greek translation (thanks Panagiotis).

20. Fixed: A possible crash when decoding a corrupt APE file.
21. Fixed: DSD output could crackle in the last builds.
22. Fixed: Italian had the same translation for skin and theme, so it caused Theater View options to misbehave.
23. Changed: Made the Reporter view respond to F5 and refresh.
24. Fixed: APE decoding could leak.
25. Changed: When MC fails to get DMS TV channels using the device's "urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:ContentDirectory" service, an alternative method of using a channel lineup JSON file (if available) will be attempted.

I'm actually experiencing the opposite coming from .35 . The UI seems to run at 5 fps or something despite not having any visible impact on system resources. .22 also had the same issue for me where it felt like operating the client through a low bandwidth remote desktop connection. I'm on a 8GB Mac Mini with Silicon. Will do some experimenting and see if I can find a solution but as I didn't touch any settings after going from .35 to .44 I'm unsure if that will help.

Edit2: It seems it is related to scaling. I'm on a 4k tv using 1440p scaled. Somehow scaled seems to lag while native 4k does not. I would surprised if this is a hardware limitation since the integrated graphics should be plenty powerful enough to handle the UI, but then again I could be wrong. Perhaps there is a way to make the UI more lightweight until there is a possible fix?
Edit3: GPU says 0.0% while scrolling on JRiver while it says 90+% CPU, is there no hardware accelration on mac for JRiver?

Edit: Not sure if bug or intended behavior but album art size keeps resetting in Artists -> All Artists and/or All Albums view even when trying to save and re-apply current view as a preset. On windows when connected to an external libary upon reconnect the libary view synced to that of the host, but for some reason the album art on mac seems to reset to default size no matter what I do. Worth mentioning that all other custom edits to the columns on the remote libary syncs just fine.

I also noticed that when closing the client, Mode: Last Exit View/Location: Last Location doesn't seem to work at all since I moved to Mac.

Go to Applications and right-click on Media Center 27 (or ctrl-click) and check "open with rosetta" to see if it is any different running under emulation. Report back please.
The math co-processing instructions might not be implemented for certain drawing routines yet.

It seems even slower with rosetta2, that feels like 5 - 8 fps while silicon feels like 12 - 15. I did some testing with an old dual core mac mini 2014 and the performance on .44 was not much worse than on the silicon 2020 model with rosetta2. It really does seem related to drawing since gpu usage stays at 0.0% for both MC27 and windowserver while scrolling while MC27 spikes the CPU quite a bit.

On a much brighter note I notice ram usage going down by 2 - 400mb without any settings touched from .35 to .44 which is great.

So that's how they implement the universal app with intel?   ....  Interesting

I'm just wondering... when the version for Mac will have a simple option available like HAVING THE DISPLAY DETACHED from the app... after all, we are in 2021... soon.
I'm testing it right now, and I'm pretty... disappointed. A lot of bugs... and I was surprised or shocked to notice that at some moment my beloved Media Center v27 simply froze while eating frugally, pay attention 32GB of my 64GB of the RAM of my iMac... No comments.

I think this is a bug ...

I am using brand new Mac Mini. MAC OS is Big Sur 11.1 - the latest. I installed MC 27.0.44. I have following configuration: Mac Mini -> HDMI -> DENON AVR. I tried all possible options when creating a zone within MC but I am always getting an error message. This error message is quite large and it is informing me basically that the configuration is not ok. I tried also changing in MAC OS Audio Midi the options for my Denon when used as output -> nothing !

I used the same configuration before with my old Mac Mini and it was working just fine.

I am also using the following configuration: Mac Mini -> USB -> DAC and this is working just fine. I can reproduce DSDs, High resolution audio ... no problems. But with HDMI it does not work.

I installed VLC to check whether HDMI connection is working there - and it works with VLC. I also have a very good picture because my AVR is connected with HDMI to my TV as well.

I hope somebody will take a look into this ...

FYI.. I am having the same issue but connected via HDMI to Anthem MRX720 and get the error. Oddly, it has worked a couple times intermittently after flipping switches, (options) but not consistency, fails more than anything else. Also hooked up via USB to Cambridge Streaming DAC and works fine, 851N.

Maybe it's some sort of HDMI limitation on the M1-based Macs? Since Apple uses their own GPUs that are built-into the M1-based Macs (and not Intel, AMD or Nvidia-based GPUs) that could be quite possible.

The fact that it is working with VLC without issues, points rather to MC than to Mac Mini.

Do you know what VLC is outputting?  If MC is set similarly, it should also work.

Let us make it even more simple. When I play Youtube video with Safari I get the proper sound on my AVR. I did not change any settings of Safari - it is using in Denon as output. Only with MC I am not getting any sound ...

Not true. By default I believe apps like VLC go through the macOS system mixer which is known to silently resample audio to a supported bit-depth/sample rate. One way you can verify that it's going through the system mixer is playing back an audio file in VLC then opening a web browser to YouTube and trying to watch a video at the same time. If you hear both at the same time, it's definitely going through the system mixer. MC by default is a little different, it'll display a warning informing the user that it can't playback audio at a specific bit-depth/sample rate and giving the user options on what to do next.

A good example is when Bluetooth is being used. Most Bluetooth devices only support 48 kHz, which most apps by default will silently resample to when playing back to Bluetooth devices. MC instead will inform the user that it can't playback the audio at the native sample rate.

You can set MC function like other apps to automatically resample in the background, but some users may not like this. If Bluetooth is being used, you can use the Output Format > Sample rate part of DSP Studio to resample everything to 48 kHz.

Also note the opening of the device is quite detailed in the log. It's easy to see what's not working if you look at that or post it here.

Now that you guys successfully transitioned to the native graphics do you mind please to increase the width of the window drag/resize regions to align with how all other Mac apps work?  Loyal customer for years asking in my pretty please voice.  It's a project trying to put the mouse in the one pixel of width allocated for dragging and resizing the window.

If you hear both at the same time, it's definitely going through the system mixer.

I wonder if that's why my keyboard volume controls don't work when I have MC running.

So here is the log that was suggested by Bob ....

By the way - from this log it is not at all clear where the problem lies ... or at least I cannot see it.

Pretty clear to me. It says it only supports PCM at 48k.

Bob,

How come it supports only 48 khz ? In other cases it plays different formats ... I mean this makes little sense to me, because AVR plays diefferent formats without issues. Only in this case it requests to be 48 KHz ? I changed different formats in Audio Midi settings but it always shows 48 KHz. But normally it should not be a problem - it was not before ...

After reading several posts I did some quick experimenting, it seems Apple has somehow disabled/removed support for 44.1 over HDMI on the newest m1 mac mini (11.1). I checked on my windows pc and an older intel mac mini 2014 w/ 11.1 and I got a lot more options connected to the same device. That's actually quite disappointing if this isn't a bug on Apple's end.

I changed in DSP all formats to 48 KHz - even for 44,1 KHz and now it plays. But it is weird - that all formats should be transformed into 48 KHz even though my AVR can play 24/192.

Anyway, I would like to thank you guys for taking your time at the very end of this year and to look into this log.

The whole forcing the HDMI output to 48Khz is what keeps my new computer working as a computer instead of as a dedicated media player.

I'm pretty unhappy about it and I have no idea why the Midi App was crippled this way.

I purchased a USB C to HDMI adapter but that doesn't help.

I'm a bit surprised they did that with the USB C to HDMI adapter too.
Since the HDMI is processed through the graphics chip it might be simply a limitation of that chip or that they haven't gotten the proper core audio driver for it finished yet so that isn't totally surprising.

It would be interesting to see if anyone running 11.x on Intel sees the same issue.

The HDMI output locked at 48Khz could be a result of my equipment. I have seen others reporting more sample rate options.

My AVR specifically is a Denon 730h and it's not recent.

Recordings on my M1 MacMini are restricted to 48kHz as long as my monitor is connected via HDMI. Otherwise any sample rate is possible.
