Jremote2 has no way to add or recognize a server.
« on: January 08, 2021, 04:59:21 am »

i am trying to use Jremote2 on a tablet.  The  tablet in question is Samsung Galaxy Tab 4-SM-T23ONU

There is no way to add a server and it does not find one.  When i launch it i am only asked for an for access key and user name and password.

Gizmo names the servers available and i choose it and it all works.  But i want/need JRemote2 to work

Please advise

Cheers

The Access Key is the way to add a new server. Input the access key from your server.

Thank you for such a prompt reply.

Please forgive that i still need to ask more

When i connect from Ie Samsung cell phone it autmoatically sees my JRiver MC as long as it is on,but on my tablet there is no server to see.How or where do i enter this access key? And is it the same key?

There's a couple articles on the wiki which might help.

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Access_Key
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Network
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Remotes

Thank you mate

i read those, none of them address the issue i have where Jremote2 on my tablet gives no access to choose/edit a server. It goes straight to asking me to enter access key or my IP.

How does it know which server to connect to? i D/L the app to my tablet and to a samsung cell phone about 1 day apart,so it would be the exact same version on each?

i want to know why it reacts so much different on my Samsung tablet than on a samsung cell which gives me the entire setup process of choosing/adding a server etc

Cheers

In JRemote2, select My servers in the left sidebar, and once there select ADD A NEW SERVER from the bottom right. From there you can select AccessKey (which you can get from within your device running Media Center's Options > Media Network) and input the info needed. You have to know the access key for your device running Media Center as a server, read the wiki about Media Network again for more info. You can enable/use authentication or even enable read-only authentication. :)

So it's actually really easy to add/remove/edit servers in JRemote2. :)

Neither Gizmo nor JRemote/2 have any functionality to auto-detect Media Center on your network. You must have set it up at some point to know about your server.

If you have not done this on your tablet, then you'll need to enter the required information at least once. You can connect either via Access Key or by directly entering IP/Port.

"In JRemote2, select My servers in the left sidebar, and once there select ADD A NEW SERVER from the bottom right"

Yes mate i have done that many times.

i select add server(There is no add a new server) and am faced with options

1.Access key.

When i click that i am now faced with where to enter access key and i can choosesecure connection or not.i have tried both ways.
i am also faced with authentication here for user name and passord.Though this is turned off in MC and no other device needs this i have at least tried it.When ihit connect after entering the CORRECT access key i face the error "Access key is not valid, must be 6 characters" Which is what i enter and the access key is corect,i promise you.i have checked dozens of times and it works for other devices.

2. IP address

This also fails hough i enter my IP correctly. The port 52199 is chosen for me if that makes any difference?

Thank you for your continued assistance mate

good eve

Is there a resolve on this issue?

i have tried dozens of times to get this to work on my android tablet

 Samsung Galaxy Tab 4-SM-T23ONU

Are there known issues with Jremote2 and this device. On another android device i may not have for long,it works fine.

Again i am given the options to try by access key or IP address

i most def. enter those correctly as i have on the other device whick works and it fails

Can i please get some advice on getting this to work?

Much appreciated

Cheers

Both access key and IP address works fine here on my Android devices. Try resetting Media Network in Media Center, and generate a new access key. Also double check your firewall and make sure it's not being blocked. If it's limited to your specific device, try clearing the app's cache and data and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise it'll be hard to diagnose since for the majority of us it works fine.
