Macbook Pro keyboard volume control
« on: February 07, 2021, 10:15:47 am »

i've been using MC26 and been delighted with it.
I tried MC27 and on installing it the volume control worked fine, but when the app was closed and reopened later the volume could not be adjusted with the usual keys.i opened the forum help and had a look, closed Safari and went back to MC27.
Magically the issue was resolved but only while app was open!
i have tried uninstalling both MC26 and MC27 and even reinstalling Mac OS Catalina but to no avail.
I also made sure MC26 was not enabled in Accessibility.
Strange as this issue was not present in MC26.
Hoping someone will shed some light on this one!

First make sure you're using the latest build of Media Center 27, 27.0.61 which can be located in the topics at the top of this forum section then see if you can still reproduce the issue.

A further observation...... I was offline and opened MC27,the volume control didn't work.
I clicked the help button and attempted to reach the interact forum knowing perfectly well that the connection was impossible as I was offline.
Went back to MC....started the same track and yes you guessed it.... the volume control was working.
Yes I'm sure there must be several Mackbook Pro users out there with no such issues....I can only report on my findings
Maybe there's a glitch in my copy of Catalina though I reinstalled it.... or maybe a future update to MC will resolve it!

Hi All,

The craziness with my Mac Wireless Keyboard (wireless A314 October 2009 - two battery version) continues.

I have had JRiver for Mac 20 and now 28, and written about this problem over the years. I hoped that JRiver 28 would have fixed the problem.

Essentially when JRiver 20 or 28 boot up initially, the volume up and down keys do not work on the keyboard, but bizarrely, if I first on and type in Firefox (!!) and then reselect JRiver, they work perfectly until next start up. Sometimes I think if I clicked on exactly the right parts of the JRiver top bar they would start working too, but by then I always thought I was going mad.

This was on Mac Mojave.

Over the weekend, I tried to install Catalina, blew up my Mojave install, but eventually got a perfectly fresh Catalina install.

And of course a beautifully fresh Jrvier 28 install too.

But now I can't get the volume buttons on my Mac bluetooth keyboard to work at all. I have set JRiver volume to Internal. And tried clicking all over the place, but to no avail.

These little buttons make or break my listening experience because I cannot just sit on my couch (or cook from the kitchen)and control volume with a few clicks on the keyboard from metres away: I have to sit up, find the mouse, squint hard at the TV or get closer so I can even see what is happening if in the kitchen, set it perfectly onto the slider in the top left corner and slide it just right - all so much harder for an old man to do than a button click or two.

At least now I see some others with problems as bizarre as mine.

Any solutions this time round please?

Regards,
George.

Hello it is a while since I posted on this topic but from memory I was using mc27.
The only way to use the JR app was to use an old Apple remote control which controlled the key function. In addition I used a DAC with a built in volume control (i used an Oppo HA2) which of course eliminated the need for the remote.
I remember using a screen recorder at the time and the app used an audio plugin to record the system sound and when the JR app was started the sound output defaulted to the plugin the sound output of which was fixed so nothing happened when trying the macbook's volume buttons.
I deleted the screen app and its associated plugin (/Library/audio/plug-ins/Hal folder )
Sadly neither helped the situation for me

Eventually I gave up and waited for OS Monterey to be launched and then got mc29 at the same time and voila! all was well
