The only way I could find on my iMac was to select the Sonos Pair in the Airplay menu. That worked but not consistently (Apple issue). Sometimes, the pair was listed but not selectable. Never figured out why and moved on to set up an AVR.

ok, ill bite. what's an AVR?
also, why aren't the sonos speakers visible in MC27 anymore?  in fact, none of my network is visible.

Is Media Network enabled under MC's Options?

each sonos speaker is identified as a DNLA client, even though they are stereo pairs. any idea how to make them stereo pairs in MC instead of separates?

One is probably a DLNA Renderer and the other is tied to it.  Explore the Sonos settings in their app.

You may need to set the Denon to act as a DLNA Renderer.  Manufacturers unfortunately use different names.  On my Sony receiver, I think it's called Network.

they are listed as a stereo pair in sonos. no way to make one a renderer. they have unique ip addresses.

the denon shows up as a unique zone with its own ip address.

if i could figure out how to send the same music to each dnla renderer, at least i would have mono music at each, but there doesn't seem to be any way in MC to do that. I've tried linking zones but that doesn't work, either. i get music in each zone, but its different in each. syncing doesn't work.

Are you streaming to individual (or grouped) Sonos speakers?  Do you have a Sonos Port?  For example, I have a Port and I have it hooked up to my integrated amp (analog) and it plays everything I throw at it on any speaker chosen through the Sonos app.

If your speakers can play these formats then yes. Otherwise, MC can convert them to whatever the speakers support.

the sonos speakers are set up as stereo pairs. i don't know if this means they are grouped, or not. ill look into the Sonos Port.

I have the Sonos Connect.  Predecessor to the Port. not sure if the Port will do anything the Connect cannot, or, more importantly, what i am trying to do.  does anyone know?

Depending on your setup, "Line-IN" and if the sound has a lag, change the input.

My understanding; when I was shopping for small network speakers a couple of years ago that SONOS do not support DLNA properly. They have their own ecosystem like Apple does. That is why I went with a pair of Yamaha WX-010s which do DLNA (rebranded as MusicCast), Airplay, BT. Unless that has change in the last couple of years?

I just double checked my Sonos...since they have come out with an updated system and new speakers (I have both new and old).

Sonos does play some music formats, like MP3 just fine from MC.   But it does not accept some high res formats.

I haven't fiddled with any audio conversions, but I'm guessing you can down convert audio files that Sonos doesn't like.

HI,
I manged to use line-in on a sonos 5 speaker to accept out put from Media Center.
You have to setip line in from Sonos piont of view with android controller.
Once configured you can the use Line in as a source on sonos from your computer.
You can use all groupings and stereo pairs.
Works perfeclly you decide what you want in jriver and play. Then in sonos you select line-in and play.

It even works from remote desktop (Windows)
