JRemote fails to connect to server
« on: April 20, 2021, 11:49:21 am »

I recently purchased a new Android tablet and am trying to download the newest version of JRemote 2 to it. When I tried the old ACCESS KEY JRemote said it failed to connect to server. So -- I requested and received a new access key from MC.  When I try the new Access Key on the ADD SERVER page and click CONNECT I get a "No STL/TLS Server port found" message.  I am leaving the Authentication fields blank.

Can someone give me instructions to finish installation?

THANKS

Is your wifi connection turned on?

Are both machines on the same network?

Jim --

Yes, the tab browser is connecting fine and the tab and the desktop with MC are on the same router.

Is Media Network turned on on the server?

In the same place on the server, there is a test function.

Yes, as far as I can tell, it is turned on.  When I clicked on the test function, I saw the correct access code, and the following graphs (I abbreviated the last graph):

"This library server is not reachable from the internet but you can still use it with your local network.

To use this server from other computers on your local network select it in the tree  PLAYING Now – PLAYING FROM  and click ADD LIBRARY

TO make this server accessible from the internet …. (etc etc etc)"

Please advise on next move.

I don't have JRemote2 but based on your message, I'm wondering if there is a checkbox for secure access that you have checked (you should NOT unless you've explicitly set that up on MC's Media Network configuration page).

Jim --

I was able to connect (Have no idea what I was doing wrong) but Main library seems to be responding to JRemote in both a main listening area and the (ID) listening area.  The music library shows up; allows me to pick an album; allows me to pick a song, BUT  no music starts playing.  This is happening in both listening areas.

Any guidance you can offer is appreciated.

(Bob -- just saw your note; thanks also for responding!  w.)

Kind of shooting in the dark here, but you might want to check to see if your tablet is running a VPN or firewall.

Bob,  Thanks again for weighing-in.  In the tab's settings there is a category for VPN and it is set for "No."
...But I really don't know how to determine the firewall answer.

Any other solutions from you are Jim, etc., would be welcome.

Good Morning -- I am following up on yesterday's problem with JRemote2, and checking my settings on MC:

Question -- Is this relevant?: In Media Network, I have Authentication User name and password CHECKED... and I believe have my old user MC name and password entered (The password is starred out -- can't see it).  Should I be using USERNAME AND PASSWORD, or EVERYONE?
Then in the login field –I have No user name and password checked  -- I assume this field exists to change either of these (?).  Also -- the instructions say to activate the connection, go to the left nav, click on ADD LIBRARY and enter the new Access Code.  I tried to do that, entered the new Access Code, and got a window that says (something like ):  "Cannot add an existing library."

Please help.  Thank you.
