« on: May 23, 2021, 04:48:10 pm »

Hi all.

When entering theater view MC27 Linux will display a blank white and is not responsive.
Tried on the latest KDE Neon, fresh instelled Kubuntu 21.04 and the latest Manjaro KDE.
On the Neon machine MC23 is working.

Thanks a lot for any help,

Laptop: Intel HD Grapics 620, i5-7200U, 16GB RAM , X-Server X Org 11.0, Realease 1.20.9
Same issues on a Desktop with same SW, but with Radeon RX 570, Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB RAM
Any further info needed?

In addition I experienced there are two windows: the regular window with the Theater view and a second white one as an overlay. With some tricks of the mouse I can make the theater view window visible and then everything is working normal. But as I'm usually in touch mode, there is no mouse :-(

Yes, would you turn on logging and post a log here? There is openGL debugging info in it.

Now I was half successful: Theater View showed up, but not in fullscreen and half of the panels of the systems were visible.
Here is the log.

Thanks for your support.

This is what I can get:
Could someone else please try, whether it's working? Or is it just me?

Thanks in advance

It's likely to be one of these.

Try installing another distro of Linux.  There are instructions on this board.

As explained in my first post, I got the same result with a fresh Kubuntu.
I like MC, but I'm hesitating to change my basic setup, because one app is not working as it should.
I think it's the app that needs to be fixed, not the operating system.
Can you please have a closer look at the app?

This is on MacOs, I couldn't find similar settings in KDE.
MC23 is even working on my Surface Go 2 with the Pentium.
On a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04.2 on the i5-Laptop MC27 isn't even starting, MC23 is working as expected.

You might try a different desktop but a different distro might be needed.

Thanks for the proposal.
I have already tried several distros (Manjaro, KDE Neon, Kubuntu, Ubuntu), all with the same result.
Not working with MC26 and MC 27, all working fine with MC23.
I don't think that trying some more distros is the right way to solve the problem. The prolem isn't the distro, the problem is the app. What about some investigation from JRiver side, e.g. can you reproduce the problem?

This is almost certainly related to Mesa and the graphics drivers, perhaps you're missing a dependency or something needed for it to work?

Could you try Debian?

The desktop could be the problem.

We haven't had other reports of your problem.

I just tested it on Arch Linux using an AMD Radeon RX 580 GPU with the latest Mesa and Theater View loads fine. As it's loading for a split second it does appear white but then it appears normally, so something's not right in your setup.

I also haven't seen anything like this on Arch or Debian, with AMD or Intel graphics.  I've tested in Gnome and KDE on Arch, and can't reproduce.

Is this happening on a clean install with no imported or existing library?  If you haven't tested on a completely fresh MC install you should try that as there might be a library setting hanging things up.  If it doesn't happen on a clean default install, then try to isolate what settings might be in play.  For example, do you have MC configured to launch into theater view?  If so try launching to standard view and manually switching to see if that might be a way to isolate the issue.

Hi gents.

I tried with a fresh install of Kubuntu 21.04 and a new installation of MC V27. Same results
But as recommended in an other thread, I disabled "Show on screen instructions" and now Theater View starts. Unfortunately not in full screen but like attached.

I'm not primarily interested in Theater View, but in a possibility to use the program with a touch device. Sadly MC doesn't offer any good user experience for that. Or did I miss something? Looks like I have to stay with MC23 on the touch device and use MC27 for the rest.

You could use Panel for touch screen.  There's a wiki topic.
