MJ wiped out my library... help!
« on: January 11, 2003, 07:08:44 pm »

? My MP3 collection resides on a network server. I am a new user of MJ v 8.0. I ran File > Library > Update Library > Clean Up > Remove files which do not exist > Include Network Drives. This action deleted virtually all music files not contained in folders (clips within folders in same folder... My Music... survived)! While the clip paths remain in the Media Library, the source files are gonzo from my server and are not even in the Recycle Bin. How can I reclaim these precious files? Please help.... thanks.

Could you have accidentally moved the files.  The last time I checked, "Remove Files" removed the library entries, not the files themselves.  The command was misnamed.

that option does not delete files, it removes them from the listing in MJ8

If you used another program and moved or renamed the media files MJ does not know what you did with them.

You Need To Use The Import Option on the drives and folders yoou have your music files in and MJ will import them back in.

In fact, MJ did delete into oblvion 56 of my clips with this command option. I found many of the previously missing files scatterd among Temp folders across my network (those files not contained infolders); all were removed from their designated location on my server. Media Jukebox is heavy-handed with the term "do not exist," as it blew away many precious clips that DID EXIST. This is very upsetting and should be corrected.
