Hey you clever guys, I have searched the various forums and cannot find an answer so hope someone can tell em what I have done wrong.

The id is set up and I can connect from my Win10 laptop, remotely and have a Share to the internal storage.  My objective is to use the id as a server and location my music collect on the device.

From what I have read I should be able to drag my music into the internal storage but I see a few problems.
>  1 When I drag a folder of music it adds the folder but gives me a permission error when the music files are dropped into the folder.  Looking at the system it appears that the folder is not inheriting the permission of the internal storage
>  2 When I try and import my music I cannot find the Internal storage folder only the predefined Music/video/Pictures folders

If I have missed a post apologies, I have spent a few days looking to resolve this and gave up and decided to ask.

Thanks

You need to put the files into the media folder under InternalStorage.
That is linked to the Music share in the Id's auto-import.

Hi Bob, sorry this is a late reply, I have to admit to getting frustrated by the Id as it seems simple but the simple seems to fail.

I am uploading my files to the Media Folder.  Currently, they are structured in individual folders <artist><album name> on my windows 10 device.  My objective is to keep the same structure on the Media drive of the Id.

But when I try and drag a folder of music the folder copies but the music files are not copied to the folder.  I also cannot drop the music files directly into the created folder.  The Share says I do not have permission to add files to the created folder.

I do not expect that I have to drop all my media files as single files without a structure of folders... do I??

Try copy and paste instead of drag and drop.

Hi Jim I did all those things and failed, but I have now found the problem and files are copying across nicely.  It is about sharing settings on Windows 11 (and 10) but I found this site on what needs to be changed.  https://techviewleo.com/install-and-configure-samba-share-on-windows/  Following these made the difference.

Thanks anyway

Were you able to figure out which particular change?
It would be interesting to know.

All,

These were the steps I found in the link, The world lit up when I got to the final step of turning on File and Print Sharing that's when everything came alive.  I assume the previous steps are dependent steps to enable this feature.

Step 1: Enable Network Discovery in Windows 11

On your Windows 11 start menu, launch settings
On the settings tab, click on Network & internet then select Ethernet
In the Ethernet settings tab, select Ethernet properties
In the Network Profile select private
(note you may need to do this for WiFi networks and any specifically listed networks)

Step 2: Turn on Public Folder Sharing in Windows 11

On the Windows 11 start menu, launch the Control Panel
In the Control Panel, select Network and Internet
On the next page select Network and Sharing Center
Go to the Change advanced sharing settings option
In the Change Sharing Options  (For each relevant network profile)
These 3 items should be enabled
 > Turn One Network Discovery (carried over from step 1)
 > Turn on automatic settings of network-connected devices
 > Turn on File and Printer Sharing

These steps opened up the whole device on the Windows 11 network settings and I dropped in 35,000 audio files in a few hours.
