Crackling when using WMD driver
« on: August 22, 2021, 01:06:00 pm »

I know for sure that while using my convolution in JRiver I have crystal clear sound but when using the WMD and playing through spotify or another platform I get heavy crackling. Does anyone have any experience on what it could be?

Ive searched hopefully most of the posts on this issue and attempted all the proposed solutions and unfortunately nothing has worked.

Is there a checklist somewhere that I might have missed? Or perhaps some new ideas on solving the issue?

It's almost certainly related to the buffer/latency settings.  It's been a few years since I tinkered, but I think there are three relevant buffer/latency settings.  The most relevant is the "live playback latency" setting under Audio advanced, then the other two are the device output buffer in "device settings, and then the pre-buffering settings.

I would suggest trying different combinations of settings, both larger and smaller (larger buffers sometimes reduce crackling, but when too large can create crackling too.
