Some questions about the roadmap
« on: October 17, 2021, 09:01:50 am »

Hello,

I'm freshly registered, so 1st some info about me: I am a Long time Linux user and avid home cinema fan with a JVC X7500. Long time MadVR user, looking to ditch the last Windows machine in my household and sadly meanwhile also really unhappy with MadVR.

Hardware:
Debian 11
Intel CPU
Nvidia 1080 and 1050 Ti

Yesterday the news hit me, that finally there is an early version of a very promising renderer, which runs under Linux and does dynamic tonemapping. You can't believe how happy I am that finally someone takes it upon himself to develop a thing like this!

So I have quite some questions about the roadmap of the development of the exiting new renderer. Basically there are some points which force me to use madVR until now and for me a replacement would have to come with some essential features in order to be useable. Hope this is the right place to ask.
- Are there plans to implement support for 3D LUTS?
- Are there plans to give a little control over the level of tonemapping in order to match the varying brightness capabilities of display devices?
- Is any support for detecting black bars and shifting of the picture to the lower screen edge to be expected at some point?

If these options were on the horizon I'd happily give JRiver a try!

Chances are the questions you've asked have already been answered in these topics at some point: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,130657.0.html and https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,130905.0.html

Thx for your reply. I saw that thread, but decided to start a new one under the Linux section, since I cannot know how much the features of the renderer will differ under different OS.

Maybe a section for OS-independent topics could make sense. I guess most features will be the same on any OS and only a few might be exclusive. Wouldn't it make sense to have a general place for all the questions that might interest basically all users regardless of their OS?

Thx for the link to the post about the upcoming features. Looks really promising I must say.

And yes, I heard the news over at Heimknioverein. This new renderer might find quite some friends there, once it finished. :)
