What info is stored in the library?
« on: March 12, 2003, 05:51:10 am »

My machine that is serving audio to the house is in a closet without a monitor.  I access it via remote desktop from my main machine.

I am about to start cleaning up my song and picture library and I'd like to do it on the main computer since it is a lot nicer to use.  What am I going to lose when I finish and go to the server and re-import all the media?  What won't import (and hence should wait until I can work on it on the server)?

Thanks!

Me too! small world, I have been in the closet for years.

i think it depends on what file type your using.

If it is MP3 you will lose nothing, the others may not handle anything more than basic fields.

I'm using MP3 for audio, so that is a good start.

What about photos (jpg)?  Do the standard tags get put in the file somehow, or are they only in the library?

Thanks!

ogg and mpc (ape v2) can handle all fields as mp3 (id3-v2). I don't know about others formats.

Take care about cover art if they are not "inside" the file.

just make sure MC9 is savingthem to the file, the field will say inside file if not a path to the coverart on the hard drive.

there is an option to turn this on and off.
