OK, so while waiting for my iPOD to arrive I found some dissatisfaction with MMJB on Apple's support site. Several people instead recommended MJ 8. I decided to try MJ for ripping my CD collection, but have found that it can't find quite a few CDs on YADB. Furthermore, if the search fails I am not able to find a way to redo the search later or use a more advanced search. All the CDs were found by MMJB, however. I really don't want to type in track info, especially when MMJB automatically provides the info (and I haven't had any of the problems people have been complaining about with MMJB). I would like to continue using MJ 8 (especially after paying $25.00), but need to have access to a better, bigger database and more advanced search options. What should I do? Can I get track listings with MMJB, import to MJ 8, and then rip with MJ 8? A pain, but better than switching back to MMJB now that I have started using MJ 8.

Also, I seem to understand from other postings that with my post Dec. 3rd MJ 8plus I can upgrade to MC 9 for $13. Is this true or am I as confused as some other people seem to be?

Hi z,

Which CDs weren't there? Were they  "store-bought" or "home-burned?
You can redo the search by right clicking on the CD and choosing
"update from CD database".

You can probably get track listings through MMJB and use them in MJ, since the data is stored in a cache.

All the CDs are store bought. I figured out that you can right click on the CD and redo the search after writing the above message. This seems to help a lot. Several CDs were found after doing a second search.

Thanks for the help. Looks like I will switch my ipod to the MJ 8 utility.

If no responce from the server I would think it might try again, or provide a message "Can Not Connect To YADB Server..."

Or you can use CCDB instead.
They are usually about 99% accurate in their retrievals.

well thats not true for new users, since J river no longer has a License to use the service with new users.

this is also not a true statement, It is Higher than YADB but it is not 99%

I think you would be safe to say 60%-70%

My success rate with CDDB has also been much highr than 60-70%. After reading the above, I tried retrying YADB attempts on many searches and it never helped.

I have to confirm this. Sorry, I love MC, but YADB is ('til now...) miles behind CDDB. So the only solution for me is to use MMJB with CDDB. I'll try YADB in the future, but for the moment it's (almost) for nothing.

By the way, maybe it would help to support YADB as far as you can. Submit all your tracks to YADB within MJ (best over night, it might take a few moments):

Right click on a track, then "Properties..." - "Tools" - "Subit Track Info To YADB".

That's what I did with my 7'500 tracks. Hope, this helps.

I seem to be only able to access CDDB. How can I use YADB to access song info for a song in my MJ database?
I go to Tools within the file properties and all I can see and use is "get information from CDDB", and it currently says I am over the limit.

if i remember correctly MJ8 has two places for Lookup

there was a combo box in setup at one time you can change from CDDB to YADB i think later builds removed this combo box.

but if you go to the tree to the left, and select the cd drive, then right click you should see.

Update From CD database

Properties, if you can set it To YADB it should be there.

Like i said some versions had a Combo Box To Change The Setting.

King, That works for CDs being ripped, but not for already ripped music. I only have CDDb available and that currently does not work.
Can Nikolay and folks add YADB support in 8.395 for already ripped music that does not have correct or any properties?

well in MC9 there is an Option For Media File Lookups.

But it does not work like CDDB it works On Digital ID. They as far as i know do not plan on making a ByFile LookUp Based On Id3 Tags and thats what CDDB uses.

Also there at my last look was only 50,000 Digital ID'ed Files In The By File Lookup. (I Plan To Add Mine Soon). Digital File ID is better.

Personaly I don't see It Happening For MJ8 (I Could Be Wrong).

I suspect their hopes is that everyone will go to MC9 [can't blame them at all].
For those who hang on to MJ8 there is little hope of getting the correct properties for music files that are not being ripped or are not on CD so they can be ripped.
Sorta "go to MC9 if you want properties filled in", right?
Well, from the looks of it, MC9 core is basicly done and now they can get on with the business of fixxing bugs [and hopefully not adding new ones].

MusicMatch DOES NOT use cdbb.
MusicMatch use his own data who has as well picture sleeve

MusicMatch puts the cd infos in the folder 'cdplayer.ini'
Means that MJ or MC can have access to it.
But MusicMatch DOES NOT takes cd infos from the folder 'cdplayer.ini',even if the infos concerning the cd is inside this folder.
Like it you have to to update the MusicMatch data.....
have to say that the MusicMatch get cd infos is very neat and friendly.

WinAmp use cdbb. But WinAmp DOES NOT put the infos in cdplayer.ini ,but in a place you cannot find and access.
Beside this there is HUDGE security issues with WinAmp and it is kind of spyware.

I hate to have to get infos for each cd at the start of the rip.I use to get infos for 50,100 cds at once.
In this case it is not such a big deal to put them in MJ or MC and the ones you did not get infos in MusicMatch in a second time.
As well you can use only MusicMatch to get cd infos and latter,when rip finish do as fex said : submit tracs infos to YADB.
