JRiver for Android Problems and Play Store Reviews
« on: February 10, 2023, 01:17:29 pm »

I'm going to risk my reputation as the eternal optimist and say that I think we're fast closing in on making something great with JRiver for Android.

It's now stable on both phones and Android TV's.  I'm running it without significant problems on an NVidia Shield, a Sony Bravia Android TV, and a Samsung Galaxy Note 20.

We also got it running recently with Android Auto.  It works with the new Coolwalk update of Android Auto.

We had a rocky start a few years ago, but if you were disappointed, please try again (update from the Play Store) and let us know if you find problems.  I promise we'll fix them or refund your money.

On the other hand, if you gave us a stinky review, please update it when you've tried JRiver for Android.

Thanks.

is there a tutorial for JRiver for Android? Does it function like Media Center for a PC/Laptop? Does it manage the music downloaded to the phone?

No, no, and yes.  It also can play from a DLNA Server or a DLNA Server can play to it.

Hello:
Congrats for owning a Sony Bravia.
Please install, this app on it and load mkv files.. You will notice the bleeding of texts and images.
If you do not own mkv library, I can send you a couple of Samples to prove my point.
Do not install on your car, cell or tablets for testing, you will not see the issues regarding bleeding.
You probably install and use on cell, tablets . The issue will not show up on these devices because the screen sizes.

Here is a list of my Bravias, at one point, several times, I have installed removed and reinstalled with no fix.
Sony Bravia 850c 55,65 inch
Sony Bravia 930D 65 inch
Sony Bravia 49 H
Sony Bravia 950-G- 85 inch
Sony Bravia 950-G 75 inch later replaced with
Sony Bravia Z9J 75 inch also replaces with
Sony Bravia Z9K 2022 model... Excellent
Sony Bravia X95k 75 inch.
The above is my resume and list of Bravias I have installed JRiver for Android on since 2018 or 2019.
Note Mo4media app is also installed  on these tvs and also on Nividia Shield Pro. No Bleeding issue on Mo4media.
How many mkvs movies do you have?
I have 3600 +mkv , still growing.
It is good MC database can swallow these mkvs without complaining and Mo4Media can also play anything I throw at it.
My initial complains with JRiver for Android are  still not addressed as of version 68.

The new options like "check for update" asking for database to hook in to are nice and fine.
Of what good is an app when this app loads up , the screen is messy, blurry, background images bleeding every where and more over the different between it and other remote app is like DAY and NIGHT.
(1) Bleeding of main Screen.
(2) Bleeding of "RECENT PAGE"
(3) Main Screen does not have a Jump to or a Search option.
(4) "RECENT PAGE" has no Jump to or Search Option.
(5) On "RECENT PAGE", data is displayed in a row-- horizontal instead of GRID mode.
Just imagine, when you are on this page, you have to select mkv to browse or play  from the left column to the right column.
I wrote several times to correct this, according to you, I am a liar !!
"The proof of the pudding is in the eating," !!
In the past, JRiver for Android either on Google tv cast, which I do not own any longer , and Shield Pro will play very brilliant Dolby vision mkvs from my Bravia that can handle dolby vision.
I tested some playback of DV mkvs on this release.
It did not look as crisp as it used to.
Image was dull and not interesting to watch.
Then via the Shield Pro, here comes the Wow moment.!!.
In the past I noticed the Wow!! moment on your app, not on this  version 68.
This could be a result of the bleeding  back ground  colors
If you want to beef up this app, find a way to integrate spot light , so that those of use that do not sit in front of PC and use theterview can also have fun using Spotlight, and DVR and time shifting/Guide.
What I am requesting here is to add TV features .
Another request, revamp the opening page. It is too vanila !!
We can use the color options you already have in JRemote and Jremote2
Why can't you use the Jremote2's theme, color blending and interface ?
Give us a different version and fix your price !!.
Forum members will not object to any real  facelift and revamping this app.
You can delete if you wish.
I will not post any review on Playstore, until I see an update with new theme(s) and bug fixes.
Thanks

Update/install it via the Play Store on the Shield.

Thx, awesome.

Excuse my ignorance....don't use many apps on the shiled....should I delete the JRiver app I have installed first then re-instal or can I simply select an update in the play store. Just trying to get a clear picture before I try it tonight.

If it's already installed, you can just go to the Play Store and update it, that way it will preserve the library. After updating it to the latest version, you will be able to use the About page in the app to check for updates in the future.
