Mac versions 28, 29, & 30: plays on song and stops
« on: May 14, 2023, 03:49:10 pm »

First: I scanned the forums for my issue and found nothing, but I only have 25% of my eyesight, so I may have missed something.

This problem started when I simultaneously upgraded to Media Center 28 and bought a new integrated amp, a SU-G700 - Grand Class. The problem continues through versions 29 and 30 of Media Center.

1. Turn on the amplifier.
2. Try to start playing the first track of an album (or any track).
3. Nothing happens.
4. Press stop.
5. Press play.
6. Media Center plays the first track of the album.
7. Track plays normally and finishes.
8. Receive a generic error message that Media Center experienced an unknown error and stops playing.
9. Press the play button, and nothing happens.
10. Press the stop button.
11. Press the play button.

All tracks on any album will normally play with no further errors for the rest of the listening session.

12. Stop playing music. Go do something else.
13. Like most modern amps, because of European law, the Technics will turn itself off after 20 minutes.

Come back because you miss your music.

14. Turn the amp back on.
15. Press to play the track.
16. Go back to step 3 and do it all again.

I suppose it could be the fault of the Technics; I don't know. It just receives the musical input, not controls it.

I've ignored this problem for a long time, but it's starting to get to me. Any helpful suggestions are much appreciated.

You could report that to the manufacturer.

In Audio settings, try "Play leading silcence ..."

How are you connected to the receiver with MC?  DLNA?  HDMI?  USB?

That sounds like a DLNA problem to me, but that's a total guess since I don't have very much information.

Bigentry,

The connection from Mac Mini to Technics integrated amp is USB. From Mac Mini to TV is HDMI. I don't know what other information applies to this problem. I would appreciate your guidance.

By "manufacturer," I assume you mean Technics?

This problem occurs about 98% of the time, so, of course, today, it didn't. As soon as I can recreate the issue, I'll try your suggestion of "Play leading silence."

Thank you both,

David

I just looked up that receiver.  It's gorgeous!  Love the old school VU meters.

It's unusual that it has USB inputs for a PC (or Mac).  I suggest the following:

Tools > Options > Audio > Audio Device

Make sure you have selected the name of the device here.  If it says something like "default Mac core audio", click on it and choose the actual name of the Technics audio device.   Stop and restart MC and try again.

If that doesn't help, then going into the Device Settings (from the same place).  Turn exclusive access.  Or try integer mode.  Usually both OFF is the right setting.  But occasionally you find a DAC that likes one or the other better.

Stop and restart MC after EVERY change of the audio device.

Best of luck.
