What architecture though? amd64? i386? armhf? arm64?

Is it running on a device like a Raspberry Pi or something like a NUC? I seem to remember the web engine isn't available for certain architectures (can't remember if it's armhf or arm64). There's a chance there may not be a web engine available for the architecture you're using.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with "audiophile" distros like Audiolinux, there's really no reason to use them over stock Ubuntu or Debian, in my opinion.

Hi thanks for your replies.

I am running it on an Asus MB with intel i7 9700 K, 64 bit. JRiver had been running fine with on MC 29 but the web engine issue appeared after an update. Thought upgrading to 31 might solve the problem.

You can test to see if there are missing system libraries.

ldd ~/.jriver/Media\ Center\ 31/Plugins/linux_chromium64/libcef.so | grep -i found

Otherwise if there is nothing in
~/.jriver/Media\ Center\ 30/Plugins/linux_chromium64
Make sure your certificate store is installed and up to date
sudo update-ca-certificates
the default store should be found in /etc/ssl/certs
If not, change the symlink in /usr/lib/jriver/Media\ Center\ 31 to point it to the right place or to the local copy.

I tested on a Debian bullseye x64 system, removed my existing plugin and ran MC. It downloaded and installed the current plugin and it worked right away.

The web engine works on all platforms. On i386 it's Webkit. Everything else downloads our chromium plugin.

I would not make subjective statements, since JRiver developers are against that :) Audiolinux is better on benchmarks.

For example latency test with average delay < 1 microsecond (AMD ZEN3 5800X, Boot EXTREME2, Watchdog and Linux Journal disabled, Mitigations service enabled, ramroot, hyper-threading disabled)

Audiolinux is better on benchmarks.

Seriously? I hate to burst your bubble but boasting about having better benchmarks means diddly squat when it comes to real world usage. Especially with audio, as almost any computer can handle audio perfectly well these days without needing any sort of OS tweaks and other "special sauce" like custom audiophile OSes. Every Linux distro I've tried on many, many devices (both high-end and low-end devices) handles bit-perfect audio output without a single issue, running stock OSes like Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch Linux, etc. You really think anyone is going to notice any differences in latency like that? It's going to be negligible, I honestly doubt most people will actually notice, not to mention there's going to be other sources of latency (among other things) in the chain that can't be avoided. I honestly can't wait for LTT to get their new lab fully up and running, they can easily test and debunk things like this as they have with other "audiophile" products. This kind of thing would be right up their alley too.

Regardless, I still don't see the point in using snake oil "audiophile" OSes over stock OSes, as you're not actually gaining anything but to each their own, I guess. People must like throwing money at audio products that make bold claims while chasing the audio dragon instead of just listening to the music. *shrugs*

Hello Bob, or anyone who wants to help.

Prior to MC 31.019 release, I had difficulties with my web interface. I could not load Spotlight.
I read your fix, I was using Chrome as my browser. No certificate, then I added the certificate., which is now in the plugin folder.
During this time, on Theater view, Spotlight works on audio, but movies do not work.
Remotely using Mo4media, same.. audio and Spotlight work, movies no luck.
After upgrading to MC 31.019, and even installed Chromium, certificate in folder, audio and Spotlight work, Video still no luck.
I went to load MC 31.0.17 on Windows, Options tree and view, Browser types are in there, But with Linux, no Browser listed. Could this omission be the problem?
In Windows, we have a way to download and install plug ins from the page that we have several years ago.
But in Linux, the install plug in button does not work or respond when selected and no way to even download the plug in. In Windows, I see MC WEB UI.. is this the plug in you are referring to ?

Thanks.

Hi George,

On linux, chromium is the only choice which is why there is no selection in the options.
I'm pretty sure it's supposed to use the system cert cache in /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
You might want to check to see if that exists.
Otherwise we can ask Hendrik when he gets back from vacation.

You can also check to see if the plugin has been downloaded (which also requires that the /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt exists)
The plugin should be in your user home directory under
.jriver/Media Center 31/Plugins/linux_chromium64
IIRC

What is missing on my Ubuntu server -MC is way to download and install plug ins.
In fact no option to download plug in, but there is a button to  install. This button does not even work.
Is this plug in custom for JRiver or is it a generic plug in that can be downloaded and install with package installer? .. Something is missing.
Anyway to link me or send me this special plugin, if indeed it is available?
I also have on the plug in folder- Linux-libplacebo64,Linux-chromium64,and Linux avcodex64.
Thanks

Try backing up the Linux-chromium64 folder somewhere (e.g. copy and paste the folder into Downloads, Desktop or another folder) then try deleting it with MC closed. It *should* hopefully redownload the Chromium MC uses.

You can't get it separately.
If it's missing MC should automatically try to download it either when MC is started or when you try to access any web content (start page, etc).
When Awesome Donkey suggested moving the existing one, that was a way to test that download is working.

What we are trying to do it to find out whether the issue is in downloading the plugin OR running it.
So, from a terminal do this:
Code: [Select]
ls -l ~/.jriver/Media\ Center\ 31/Plugins/linux_chromium64and post the results here.

I have to install Chromium from the software store.. is this ok?

That doesn't matter. MC doesn't use any web browser installed system-wide on the computer whether it be Chrome or Chromium (or Firefox, Edge, Opera, Vivaldi, Safari, etc.) installed from any sort of store, PPA, installed manually, etc. It'll depend on the architecture and OS which plugin it'll use, but for an amd64 or i386 Linux distro it uses the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) plugin which MC downloads from JRiver's server into the linux_chromium64 folder when trying to use web features like Cloudplay, Spotlight, etc. The linux_chromium64 folder should be full of files after a successful download and should work after those files are present.

Copying the original linux_chromium64 folder into a different location as a backup with MC closed then deleting the original linux_chromium64 folder (and not the backup) then reopening MC and trying to use any sort of web feature makes MC redownload the CEF plugin it uses for web features just in case something went wrong previously.

I really wish MC's plugins/components it downloads had a) progress bars of it downloading (with a successful download dialog), b) error messages for things like when a download fails or server/connection times out/no response (so it can prompt the user that a firewall may be blocking the connection) or it can't write into the directory it's trying to download into and c) had some feature to check local plugin/component files and compare to what's on the server and have an option to re-download if needed.

May 16 is probably current.
The download progress unfortunately depends on Windows ability to spin a timer on a window. Can't do that on Mac or linux.
We've moved some of that stuff into the status bar but Matt hasn't done that one yet.

If it's current and it still doesn't work he probably has a missing dependency.

George try doing this:
Code: [Select]
ldd ~/.jriver/Media\ Center\ 31/Plugins/linux_chromium64/libcef.so | grep -i found

You can't run the plugin directly like that, it's a plugin.

It works fine on ubuntu 22.04, I don't see why it shouldn't run on ubuntu 23.

Try this:
Code: [Select]
ldd ~/.jriver/Media\ Center\ 31/Plugins/linux_chromium64/*.so* | grep -i found
That will check the other shared libraries in the plugin directory as well.

Hello:
I already ran this code, I got nothing.
I suspected the libcef.so is the plugin, but fingers being curious, I just clicked on it with "Hail Mary".
General Advanced... the "Install plugin" I think the code under this object is not firing.
It has been like this since MC 30, and also Ubuntu 22.10
There seem to be 12 or more files in the folder.
Do you want me to see if other shared libraries are in there ?
Thanks.
Enjoy your weekend.

It's a slightly different command, it checks the other shared libraries in that directory as well, so please run it when you get a chance.

I got nothing. This is the 3rd time I am running it.
This is to search and print or display to the screen correct ?
This could be one of the problem.
But when I peek at  the linux_chromium64 folder, I see the followings:
libcef.so,libEGL.so,libGLESv2,so,libvk_swifts hader.so,resources.pak, snapshot_blob.bin,
v8_context_snapshot.bin, vk_swiftshader_icd.json.
There are also chrome_100_percent, chrome__200_percent, and icudt.,dat
Thanks.

I got nothing. This is the 3rd time I am running it.
This is to search and print or display to the screen correct ?

George, those commands aren't the same.
The first one only checked libcef.so.
The second one checks all of the shared (.so) libraries in that directory.

How about you go into the directory
Code: [Select]
cd ~/.jriver/Media\ Center\ 31/Plugins/linux_chromium64Make SURE you are in that directory, then do
Code: [Select]
ldd libEGL.so
Code: [Select]
ldd ibGLESv2.so
Code: [Select]
ldd libvulkan.so.1
Code: [Select]
libvk_swiftshader.so
If any of them are not found then you are missing things.
rm *
in that directory and restart MC.

They they are all there look for missing libraries.

I discovered on my ubuntu 22 install that I needed to add
libva-drm2
to get VIDEO playback to work. It wasn't required for the browser

Sorry to be late. I was not at home.
Per your instruction, I went to the linux_Chromium64 folder.
These :   ibGLESv2.so and libvk_swiftshader.so  commands not found.
The other two ok.
Then I ran the rm * command.
Result was  rm : cannot remove "locales" : Is a directory.
I will now import two folders in my library so that we could use these for testing.
I had over the weekend zapped my database because of the issues with black bar detection.

Thanks.

Doesn't matter that it can't delete locales. If the original .so files are deleted the plugin will be re-downloaded. Seems like you had a partial install of the plugin.
Just let it run when it starts up. Don't interrupt it. Depending on the speed of your connection it can take up to a minute to download the plugin.

are you saying I should delete all plugins or just those two plugins.
I can delete each manually correct ?
Any special magic command <gin> ?
*.so or the stubborn ones ?
Thanks.

You did the rm * before so you should be good to go.
run MC and see if it downloads the new plugin.
(if your terminal was in that linux_chromium64 directory you should close that terminal and open a new one after MC starts to check that dir.

I successfully deleted the *.so
I made sure no so plugin in the folder.
Close the terminal
Reloaded MC
I even ripped Rain Man, 1080P and Dolby vision..
Came back cd to the Chromium64 folder.
Ran the code to list the depended libraries.
Same result. Only two , produced the desired results.
 The libvk_swi98ftshader.so and ibGLESv2.so failed.

To get MC to re-download the plugins you need to directly launch a web service like Cloudplay, Spotlight, etc.

I  re launched Spotlight, and the plugin redownloaded
Two of the plugins came up with no libraries.
Thanks for the input

There's only one plugin, linux_chromium64.
What do you mean? Is the directory empty?

sorry for the confusion.
l was only responding to awesome donkey.
I know those 4  so we're deleted, and they came back.
two had some dependents or binary files, and two had nothing in them.
I am new to spotlight and all the files it creates when it is launched.
Thanks.

Please attach the results of a
Code: [Select]
ls -lof the linux_chromium64
directory
and the results of a
Code: [Select]
df -k
If it's not already installed please install
libva-drm2

If you need to make a screenshot on linux, an easy way is to install
scrot
It's a command line program with a bunch of options but when run without any options from a terminal line it will make a screenshot of everything and put it into a .png file in your current directory.

I used package installer to install scrot. ran from the terminal  nothing. I have to read more about it to learn how to use it.
Also I searched and installed or reinstalled libva-drm2 as directed.
I used the old way to copy and paste the df-k command. It is attached.
My last write up to you yesterday was those 4 so files, two had contents and two had nothing, or command not found. These are libvk_Swiftshader.so and lbGLESv2.so ,(spelling maybe incorrect)
These 2 , *.so are missing something.
Please let me know what next to do.
I will henceforth respond to you and you alone to avoid chaos.

Thanks.
